why do evo IX owners with (6spd) prefer to put and evo8 4th gear(5spd) when rebuilding their gearbox??

Its a longer gear so you can hold 4th through the traps longer. the evo IX has a shorter 4th

 

most people drag race so the 5 speed is better then the 6 speed.
4th geaqr in the 6 speed fails alot
5 speed is stronger then the 6 speed

thats all i know

 

so i am not mistaken....you could actually put a (5spd) 4th instead of the shorter (6spd) 4th??!!

YES! didn't they just tell you that in the above posts??? People swap their 6 speed trannies to 5 speed trannies

 

i might have not been clear asking my question...
i wanna keep my six speed tranny..but swap out the 4th..is that even physically possible?

 

You should email Jon at TRE at jon@teamrip.com and ask him. Just sent off my tranny to get rebuilt to a stage 2. But I believe what you want is physically possible, but just to make sure you should ask him.

Its not possible to put a 5speed 4th into a 6speed box, the 5speed gear is wider.

I didnt buy am MR cause of the 6speed, I hate shifting as it is And later found out 6's are nothing but trouble... LUCKY ME

I (Buschur) swapped my IX 4th with an VIII so I could trap better.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but...

I understand the Evo VIII's 4th gear is longer and allows for higher trap speeds at the drag strip before having to shift into 5th, but for str**t racing (OMG!!11!!! ):

wouldn't an Evo IX with the IX 4th gear pull on an otherwise identical Evo IX with an VIII 4th gear until about 114-115mph (or wherever you have to shift a stock IX into 5th...) ???

Assuming yes, who would win in a race to 140? (both cars now in 5th, the evo with the VIII's 4th gear got to stay in 4th longer, while the stock Evo IX has been in 5th for a while)

 

assuming both cars are the same except for the gears...the evo with the VIII's 4th being in 4th would pull on the EVO with the IX 4th....

correct me if i am wrong
