More Power?
More Power?
Hi, i'm a mitsubishi enthusiats from Sydney Australia.
Just wonder, how would one increase power from a crappy 1.5 L lancer sedan?
I dunno whether to turbo or have a whole engine coversion..
If i do have a conversion, what other stuff will i need to change?
Can i keep drivetrain as FWD? or does it have to be changed?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I do not believe you can swap the turbo motor into the regular lancer as the mounts/etc are totally different. You might be able to if you have a earlier year model that would be equal to our mirage here. To increase horsepower? I say try starting with a better plat form else you might be disappointed with your gains when compared to how much you spent. If you are just looking for a little extra pep and not a total redo than you could also try a intake or something similiar.

you can get a turbo installed...dunno if thy make a kit for it... but also check out just some bolt on parts, cai/exhaust,ecu etc....
BTW, this is posted in the wrong area...this should be in the lancer forums, they would better assist you

I've been the route of trying to make slow cars fast several times now. I do enjoy the process and seeing the results firsthand but I always regret spending the money in the long run.
On average the most you can expect to get from boltons is going to be between 15 and 25 percent output gain. The trade off are normally noise (open exhaust=Loud) and some quirkyness.
Now a motorswap, like many of the ones they do in the honda world, can get you close to a %100 output increase in some cases for about what you would spend on all the bolt on parts.
In the cae of the Lancer, maybee a bolton turbo kit is the way to go, but you will probably also need a limited slip diff for the front (to put the extra power down) a standalone ECU to handle all the fuel and timing stuff, pluss whatever turbo goodies.
I don't think I have ever seen a good complete turbo kit for less than $4500.
So, I guess it depends on your budget and what is available for your specific model, and what your expectaitons are.
