I'm sure on a piece of high tech machinery such as a car, such precautions are taken so that short circuiting and such should not be an issue. However, with lack of additional grounding the system can be seen to take a minimal performance "hit."

Adding a grounding system might give you 5hp or something, but then that just means you were actually running 5hp short of what's to be expected.

It's an insurance tool to make sure all is well, but don't look at it as an actual performance mod.
I agree with you completely. I never said it was a performance mod, just cited examples of it's effects.

Two points though. If it gets you five hp back, don't you want it back?
Or how will you know you lost it if you don't have good grounds?

The more real mods you have the more taxing it is on the ignition system and ultimately it can only help to ensure the splug fires in that high boost, lean cylinder condition.

I thought we just finished explaing why 4-6 ground wires are better than one.

and arent most things on any car a price/ performance issue.. most thing on cars are good enough, not stellar, and usually have more potential to be eked out of them. thats like saying why didnt mitsu go w/ open air filter if it would have cost them a bit more than paperfilter and box assembly? could be many reasons, but it woudl have gotten abit more power.. same with groundign cables... what they have is good enough, but could be better..

I'm an engineer myself, and I can assure you that we can have the best most practical idea in the world, but someone in management will go with another option, such as a smaller gauge wire, b/c its what they have in stock, or its cheaper in bulk, and they can use it on their other cars..

if you dont think it works, cool dont do it.. but for 20 bucks, you're not taking much of a risk trying it.

i agree with thwack. i don't understand how anyone can think the manufacturer has tuned any component of your car to its limit. i'm sure most of it is simple economics. they are looking at cost and profit vs performance. for those of us who don't mind paying a bit more for that extra hp or 2, there is room to improve.

from my understanding of electronics, it sounds like it would be an improvement. small, but an improvement nonetheless. just don't pay 200 bucks for some name brand when you could have it just as good for under 50.

Hello evolutionm members. We represent Sun Automobile, manufacturers of the HYPER GROUND SYSTEM. I notice that there is some debate as to the validity of the claims of power gains by using a better ground. I posted another message on this subject in another thread, please feel free to look it up for you info. A few things I would like to address to answer some questions, in FAQ style:
Hyper Ground System

What is it? Hyper Ground System is a new generation tuning system designed to provide a direct, low-resistance ground path from engine components to the battery. It will allow the entire electrical system to perform at peak efficiency, which can result in:
-increased hp
-increased torque
-improved fuel efficiency
-stabilized idle
-brighter lights
-quicker engine starts
-reduced emissions
-reduced audio noise

How does it work?
In any electrical system, electric current flows from the positive terminal to the electrical components, and back to the battery through the negative terminal. However, the way that the factory (stock) grounds are set up, the electrons must travel through the steel and/or aluminum components in the car to complete the circuit, which creates much electrical resistance. This resistance disturbs the flow of electricity to a degree that electrical components such as the ECU, lights, spark plugs, etc. cannot perform at maximum efficiency. In order to get the highest performance out of any automobile, it is necessary to achieve an efficient flow of electricity with the least resistance along its electrical circuit. By providing a direct ground path using highly conductive 99.99% pure copper, this electrical resistance is reduced greatly, resulting in an ultra-low resistance ground path. In short, Hyper Ground System affects the electrical system similar to how a high performance intake & exhaust system affects the mechanical system.

What makes it so special?
Hyper Ground System was the first ground tuning system made available to the public in Japan. (known in the JDM as Hot Earth) This type of ground tuning had previously been utilized by Japanese WRC racing teams. Sun Auto produces the Hyper Ground System to an exacting level of utmost quality. The cables are constructed using thick-gauge 99.99% pure copper, with 1476 strands per cable. Since the electrons only travel on the outside of the strands, many strands are necessary to maximize the electron flow. The cables utilize multi-layered shielding, which is specially blended to provide minimum electron leakage as well as to withstand engine room temperatures and protect against discoloration. Terminals are available with gold-plating, for better electrical conductivity and protection against corrosion. The Hyper Ground System also uses a patented "daisy-chain" method to connect directly from the cylinder head and other points under the hood to the battery, to provide an ultra-low resistance ground path. The kit comes in 3 universal sizes to fit any type of vehicle, and is effective for use in anything from bone-stock to fully modified gasoline powered vehicles.

Sounds like a hoax, where's the proof?
Hyper Ground System (Hot Earth) has been sold in the Japanese market for the past 3 years, and has been tested again and again with positive results. We entered the US market about 1 year ago, and have put Hyper Ground System to the test in various auto enthusiast publications. Popular magazines such as Import Tuner, Turbo, Mini Truckin', Super Street, etc. have all done their own testing on our product, and they all came back with positive feedback and general amazement that such a simple product could make such a noticeable difference. In fact, Hyper Ground System has been named as one of the 10 best new products by the Import Tuner Power Pages. Dyno testing has proved time and again that this product makes power reliably and safely.

How hard is it to install?
As long as you have access to regular hand tools, Hyper Ground System can be installed by an average person in less than 1 hour. This is not a system to replace the factory grounding; it is an add on which utilizes existing bolts/nuts in the engine bay. Available in different colors, it not only performs well, it looks good too!

Another thing worth mentioning is that Sun Auto is the only company to provide earthing kits to manufacturers such as Mitsubishi, Subaru, Nissan, etc. as OEM optional parts. The wires are constructed exclusively for Sun Auto, designed to be durable, reliable, and meet or exceed OEM specs.

Hello evolutionm members, we represent Sun Automobile, manufacturers of Hyper Ground System and Hyper Voltage System. I would like to address your discussions concerning ground wires and the true effectiveness of our systems. Please feel free to look up the posts I have written in other threads on this board.
I would like to state that our systems have been proven to measurably increase power, reduce fuel consumption, reduce emissions, etc. In fact, our ground system is effective enough that it is banned for use in gymkhana (autocross) racing in Japan because it gives an unfair advantage to competitors.
The explanation of why ground systems work is as follows:
In most vehicles, grounding wires are mounted from battery to body, engine to body, etc. which means that the actual body of the vehicle is used as a conduit to complete the electrical circuit. Because the car is made of mostly steel and/or aluminum, which is not the best conductor of electricity, electrical resistance is created which results in a less efficiently operating electrical system. Hyper Ground provides a DIRECT ground path from intake mani, cylinder head, chassis, block, etc. back to the battery, using very high quality 99.99% pure copper, multi-layer shielding cables with a very high strand count (almost 1500), resulting in reducing the electrical resistance to almost zero. Electrical efficiency is increased, which results in a lower load on the alternator, and power which is otherwise lost due to electrical inefficiency is transferred to the wheels. Our customers also experience brighter lights, reduced audio noise, better gas mileage, and overall better operation of electrical equipment. Results on older cars may be more dramatic, but new cars also benefit from our systems. We have been tested/reviewed by Option magazine, Turbo, Import Tuner, Mini Truckin, etc., all with excellent reviews.
Other companies have develeoped their own similar systems, and many of you may have made your own with speaker wire, but Hyper Ground has outperformed and outlasted the competition because it is simply the highest quality system available. The cables we use are manufactured specifically for Sun Auto; the same type of cable cannot be purchased elsewhere. They are designed to meet or exceed manufacturers specs, for resistance to heat, wear, fading, etc. We are currently the only company who is able to provide these systems as OE factory optional equipment. Our clients include Mitsubishi, Subaru, Nissan, Toyota, and Isuzu. Even for the kit offered by Mitsubishi for the evo and 04 Lancer, the reduction in fuel consumption through using our kit will end up saving you money in the long run. We are happy to address any inquiries you may have about our products, feel free to contact us through this board or directly. Thank you!

I'll pass. As a matter of fact, I don't think I would buy anything at all from you. That's based purely on your behavior in these forums. You revive a thread that has been dead for 5 weeks for your advertisement, then bring it to the top AGAIN purely for the same reason. I haven't seen a post from you that contributed to the forum (I am sure you think your advertisements are contributing, I don't feel the same way). On top of that, you make outlandish claims with absolutely no evidence to back them up. Please don't respond to this unless you have empirical, scientific evidence from a third party that is verfiable, otherwise your pseudo-scientific tripe is a waste of time and bandwidth.

i decided to save money and make my own kit, and here's the plan.

i will use my digital camera to take before and after photos of the headlight brightness, and a short vid clip of ignition+idle+revs. i also plan on using an audio diagnostic cd to re-tune my system, particularly listening to it at high volumes with no sound so any hiss and feedback can be better heard. this will probably take a week, as i am waiting for the terminal rings to be shipped from me.

Excellent purecoda! I've already installed mine, but really haven't noticed much, besides smoother lower rpms. The headlights, I really haven't noticed, since the they turn on very bright to begin with, then fade out. People may be speculating based on its initial brightness. I did notice, however, that my voltage runs .2 volts higher, on average.

I made my own grounding kit as well. I felt like it helped the idle. No doubt. I wasn't responding to the overall effectiveness of bettering your grounds on your car (I would say that varies from car to car).

I was responding directly to the hype listed in the advertisement poseted by sunautousa and the unsubstantiated claims contained therein.

Also, Autozone has the cables, premade, for less than you can by parts for at most places.

I'm not sure what brand they used in Import Tuner, but they usually gained some measurable horsepower. I'd say an average of 3whp for most cars, but they did have to play around with the grouding points. Unless you've got a dyno handy. I can't see how they average joe could verify the results.

Personally, I didn't notice any difference at all after installing a grounding kit. You guys that say it helped at idle, what do you mean? What was the problem with idle before?

There is some guy on this board who makes his own kits and sells them..........Do you know who he is or where the thread is that he sells them at. I saw the thread about 2-3 weeks ago and I forgot which forum it was in. It was a very good price and all of the people were happy with the kits that they had received!!!

I noticed a great difference, the car is more confident and more consistent in power delivery.

Again my volts would drop down to 12 or even lower with the A/C and radio and lights on.

I put these wires on..

My volts are slightly over 14, I hit the lights, it drops for a second then goes back up to 14 volts, A/C drops it to 13.5 now.

Grounding is a GREAT idea, and makes youcars electical system have a great circut, which alows better spark but makes your car slightly richer too.

You have to ground it properly, thought, I have 6 ground points in a certain order.
