This is your opinion. However, you are not in a position to make such a broad sweeping comment since you have no experience with a grounding kit. I installed the kit at a "grounding kit, BBQ and EVO meet party" that I hosted. There were 5 of us there and ALL of us noticed a difference. If you don't like the idea of a grounding kit then don't buy one. But if you're going to post that it's "bull****" then you better at least back it up.

So far we have 2 dynos with 5 hp increases (although not EVO VIII's), the theory on why it works, and personal experiences from fellow EVO VIII owners.

1. you were at a grounding kit, BBQ, and Evo meet? WTF? i never heard of a meet so precise as that!! were you the only one that showed up?
2. post a dyno with it ON AN EVO
3. i will never utter the words after i lose a race: "you lucky i didn't have that grounding kit!"
4. come on 5 hp? you gotta be making that up, there is no way you can "feel" 5 hp..
5. i'll buy the grounding kit, but it'll be for a show piece, not hp..

i'm not trying to be an ***, i'm just trying to bring some humor in this thread.. i don't want people to relate EVO owners to DSM owners..

come on...all this b.s over a 40 dollar mod???
its not worth all this time and space.....the mod did nothing for me, but if u so choose, spend the 40 bucks or whatever and just do it or dont do it....
as far as im concerned any more time spent on this thread is a sad waste of time.

Sorry for dredging this up again.

1.) Here's the link:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=35443

2.) Don't have a dyno of an EVO and probably won't since the dyno time is twice the price of the kit. There are only two dyno plots I know of, one a TypeR with 5hp gain (Hyperground's website), one from vwvortex with a 5 hp gain. The Hyperground could be subjective but the vwvortex was an independant test. The only problem was it wasn't an EVO.

3.) I probably wont either...5hp is not going to decide a race (at least usually).

4.) I didn't make it up, the dyno plots are right there for you to look at.

5.) I bought it in the hope it would fix my stalling problem and for the most part it did. It also looks

Take care.

Me and 3 of my friends installed this kit the same day.. .and I can tell you i got a sligthly better gas mileage, better throttle response, DEFIANTELY got brighter headlights, and my idle is SMOOTH... all in all this is a mod that is "the bang for the buck"

Speaking of a grounding kit as a EE ... they CAN help ... with emphasis on CAN.

Why? FWIW modern cars are basically a metal box that has components that have to charge and discharge with some pretty good force. Where does this energy go? Into the metal box, called a car...and...not to the bizillion of buffers that something like your house has... Therefore the electronics have to be built with that little extra buffer in mind, both electrically and mechanically. Its not hard, but if you design an electronics system and pass up a good connection here, a good board layout there, maybe an extra buffer capacitor or inductor somewhere else, it can stack up and bite you hard. Which is why sometimes even in the most expensive of luxo cars...their widgets quit working just the same as if you bought the el' cheapo Geo.

As far as grounding goes...making claims against 'better-gas-milage,' 'more-power' specifically on the EVO is going a bit too far. If you want those things ... buy a $20.00 book on performance driving or tuning, and you'll get far better results.

Myself? I'll probably put in a grounding kit, after the steel braided brake lines go in...after the exhaust gets installed, along with a tune. AND after I get a WBo2 for doing my own tuning...because I kinda want to see if the computer gets a better knock signal or for that matter, quieter signals in general...but as for the grounding kit being 'worth' a lot, and should do it... you really don't need it for a light or medium modded EVO.

Cheers,

jcnel.

The ground kit was the first engine mod I did to my EVO. I had about 2500 miles on my car when I made my own ground wires using 4-gauge wire. Like what a lot of other people have reported, my car did feel smoother. It had better throttle response and off-boost power. The difference was definitely noticeable and I’m glad I did it. I didn’t notice better gas mileage though. Gas mileage is about the same to me. To me, the difference gained from the ground kit feels like going from a tired old set of plugs and wires to a new set.

when you install the ground kit you reset the ecu since you disconnect the battery right??? Maybe this is why it feels smoother and such... just a possibility right?

Nope, I just bolted the ground wires onto the negative terminal. I didn't need to take it off. I took my airbox and upper ic pipe off to mount the ground wires to the tranny.

I'm going to wait and see how my Evo is before I do the grounding mod. If I feel it needs it I'll go for it.

I can tell you that it made a VERY big difference on my 02 WRX. Above 5000 rpm the rex had a bad stumble/hesitation. After I ran two 4 gauges grounds the hesitation was completely gone. Not bad for $10 worth of cable/connectors.
