Problem Clocking Turbo

Hello. I'm having trouble getting the center section of my garrett gt3067r to rotate. The intake side will rotate easily, however the exhaust side is seized. There is no shaft play, and the compressor rotates freely, so IDK what the problem is. I tried soaking it in PB blaster for several hours, no luck. I also tried moving it with some really big channel lock's and then lightly rapping on it with a brass hammer, still nothing.

If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, please share them. If worse comes to worse I'm going to have to have it shipped out and serviced I guess. Any input would be helpful!

Thanks, Ken

Not sure about the 3076, but make sure it's not 'pinned' to a fixed location. If it is, you may have to drill another hole in it's new location. Also, when you clock it, make sure you don't go so far as to affect the oiling, either incoming or draining. You can usually get away with a small amount of clocking.

30Rs are not pinned.

Sometimes they get crusted on there. Make sure the PB is soaking into where the turbine housing meets the center housing.

Keep rapping the turbine housing with a deadblow hammer (not brass) til it pops free. Then you can re-clock however you like.

+1, I had the same problem here before, they just take some extra "love" when they don't budge.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the quick reply.

I will switch hammers and give her another try in the morning. I was getting frustrated so it was time to call it for the day. I'll let you know how it turns out, thanks again!

Make sure you spray a good amount of the PB Blast back on before you call it quites for tonight so it can soak over night.

Problem Solved!

I gently persuaded it with a rubber mallet this morning. I'm sure letting it soak overnight in pb blaster helped too. Came off with 3 light hits, now i'm good to go.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate it.

Yeah typically the housings get carboned up and stick to the center section. Easy way is also to heat it with a torch a little and that usually allows the housing to swell a little and then pop right off. Glad you got that apart though...

How far is too far? I'm putting my new 35R on and the compressor outlet is hitting the block.

You can adjust your compressor housing as much as you'd like. The important part is the center cartridge; make sure the oil drain is on the bottom.
