Exclamation poping sputter sounds (please read)

Recently installed evo green and 680cc injectors. While doing quick revs between 3000 to 4000 rpm i hear popping sounds AND sputtering sounds (combined with dv valve sounds) coming from the engine bay. I am tuned and fine tuning (flash + log +flash + log) as we speak.

Mods:
evo green
680 cc injectors
LICP
FMIC
GSC S1's
Walbro FP
Buschur Intake

I first suspected the new flash or/and injectors, put back everything (except the stock turbo) and it was still doing the sputtering/popping sounds. It doesn't feel as strong as before, pulls to 23psi just doesnt feel like it. feels like 17.

So i put back the 680cc injectors and tune and decided to do a boost leak test. I found a small leak in the DV small hose that connects to the intake. Tightened that up did a boost leak test again and no more leaks. Reset ECU. YET the problem is still there.

Changed sparkplugs (OEM), with no help at all.

I've searched and tried everything i can think of. I am starting to think the problem is in the stock plastic DV. As i rev between 3000-4000rpms i hear poping sounds coming from the exhaust (consistant) and sometimes LOUD pop/sputter (with a little flutter sound) coming from the engine bay.

Could the DV be leaking or be faulty? wouldn't that show in the boost leak test if it was?

No CELS. Just loud sputters/pops from the exhaust and engine bay and feels like 17psi.

I'm open for idea's, im getting tired of this!

Thanks .

fluttering sound usually comes from the DV.Might be leaking at a certain psi.

Like i said, sometimes it slightly flutters when i do quick 3000-4000 revs. But i also get LOUD sputter/pop from the engine bay. Really loud and scary.

I did boost leak test up to 25psi though (i know 15 would have been enough) and it DIDNT leak. Could it be faulty? Is it supposed to faintly flutter if i do quick 3000-4000 revs.

What would be causing the exhaust popping sounds while reving as well?

Is the WGA acting as it should. The car does boost to 23 psi?

Log a pull and post your log we may be able to diagnose it

yeah the wga is acting like it should (i think). I realised i have to increase me SET in my ebc to reach the same boost level as my stock turbo. Shouldn't the evo green turbo work less to acheive the same level?

I am thinking it could be my WGA, would it do this? The reason is because when i switched back to the stock injectors and previous tune, the problem was still there. The only thing i have not switched back yet is the turbo.

for reference, i have the 18psi WGA that comes with the green

I will get a log as soon i as i can get my AEM hooked up to log. I can't figure that out either (seen all the threads on the aem, still don't get it).

Any idea's on the pop/sputter?

Try re-gapping your plugs to a smaller gap. Try .022 or even .020 to see if the sputtering stops.

This might be a stupid question, but are you running the right plugs? The stock iridiums, not the copper NGK's meant for the VIII?

The next thing I would chekc is to make sure you didnt put the BOV in backwards. I now these are simple things, but they are easy to overlook. I really thought re-gapping the plugs would solve your problem.

Hey man .. i really thought so too !

problem is i put everything back to the way it was prior to the problem, except the evo green turbo which i left.. i even flashed back to my previous tune and it's still the SAME!

i used the right plugs :/

diverter valve is on correctly .. could the plastic diverter valve be broken?
when i did the boost leak test i didnt get any leaks, but can the diverter valve still be faulty?

I am just curious, why do you have a plastic BOV? Doesn't your car come with a metal one?

4 wheel slide - i have a wideband ...

TeStudo - The evo's we get in the gulf are european spec. European spec evo's get all the jdm lights/bumpers e.t.c. EXCEPT for the METAL DV.

Don't ask me why lol, but all the european spec evo's here are plastic, although we have the jdm lights, bumpers and all.

so let me get this stright....

from 3000-4000 at wide open throttle the can sputters and pops. u checked the plugs, and its not the tune. no boost leak either.

ok so next i would check and make sure the coils are ok. maybe the coils are bad and the car is misfireing? seems odd because its only 3000-4000 rpms but u never know. weirder things have happened.

so the bov isnt leaking?? could be (as mentioned above) a misfire due to running too rich or running the wrong plugs. make sure you DONT run those crappy copper plugs. the copper ones will actually melt as will the platinum. good luck on your issue
