gains from adjustable cam gears
gains from adjustable cam gears
what sort of gains will be seen from adjustable cam gears.
evo4 my mods so far;
atp gt3071r
full 3" exhaust
greddy type m intercooler kit
apexi power fc
720 cc injectors
walbro pump
4"intake with cold air box
currently producing 340whp on 18psi 93pump gas
next urchases are hks 272 cams valve springs retainers maybe a tidy up of the ports on the head and hks dli looking to run a bit more boost will be doing two tunes one for pump and one for c-16
is it going to be worth getting adjustabe cam gears at the same time?

If you are going to make valvetrain upgrades, it makes little sense to me to use HKS cams. The relatively lazy ramps of the HKS cams are suitable for the factory valvetrain, but IMO make little sense for anything else.
Cam gears can be quite useful, but if I were you, I recommend applying the money for cam gears toward a better set of cams (e.g. JUN). With better cams and upping the boost, you should see 400whp on 93 octane.

I did all kinds of testing with cam gears and I've come to the conclusion that all they do is move your powerband for you. Fatten up midrange power by stealing from top end power. I was able to move peak torque lower and broaden my midrange by 500 rpm at the expense of power loss in high RPMs. Unless you plan on spending alot dyno time tuning with someone that really knows what they are doing I would recommend cam gears. As ted stated, put the money towards better cams.
if you are thinking 280 cams then cam gears would be a good idea. They arent needed but like the above post states they can move your powerband to your liking.
I have hks 280s on stock cam gears it runs ok but i had to adjust the idle and low end kinda sucks but up top it just keeps pulling. im thinking of cam gears as well.

I'd follow Ted's recommendation on this... skip the cam gears and jump right to really good cams... JUN or GSC. I asked this same question before and got this answer, but went with cheaper cams and cam gears... now I get to pull them back out to drop in quality stuff dialed straight up.

ok have blox cams with valve springs and retainers, hks dli,hks cam gears.
given i made 340whp on 18psi 93pump gas with the above mods same tuner roughly what should i expect power wise on 24psi

Gains are to be made....
Just for comparison sake....here is a dyno plot of three different cam gear settings, no other tuning was conducted...the red run ( 4 ) was -3/0, the green run ( 8 ) was +2/-2 and the blue run ( 9 ) was +2/0....not only did the +2/-2 bring my boost sooner but it also had gains from 4.5k - 6.5k aswell...
