Fellahs, this is the second poll of this nature I’ve submitted to in order to get some feedback. The first time I did so was over 13 months ago as I was preparing to deploy to Iraq for my third time. This was like a goal or something to look forward to as the months passed by. Well, now it’s time for me to return home and I’m still stuck at the crossroads as before and I see this place is better than any else to get some much-needed advice and/or criticism.
Decisions, decisions, decisions…
I have a RNR non-ball bearing .50 Trim sitting in my garage that I bought for $350 over a year ago and the only parts that it needs to make the kit complete is a 38mm wastegate, T3/T4 exhaust manifold, and various oil lines. I know that I can buy these parts for under $1000 which is still roughly $1350 for the entire kit give or take a few pennies.
The reason why this is important is that I've been considering the BR 20G-LT as well but since it’s a direct bolt-on turbo, the wastegate and manifold aren’t needed as they are for the .50 Trim not to mention that it has a price tag of roughly $1750. I really don't want the .50 Trim to "go to waste" if at all possible but in the grand scheme of things, I don't want to install it on my car if it is a cheap set-up or has bad “vibes" for those of you with experience with it or know of those that have experienced problems with it.
As a compromise, I’d be willing to buy a stock IX turbo or purchasing the 10.5 hotside and O2 housing for my stock VIII turbo. Either way, I’d max them out the best that I can while remaining safe with the list of parts I have listed in my signature.
So, fellahs, my choices are:
1. non-ball bearing .50 Trim
2. 20G-LT
3. stock IX
4. stock VIII
I want my car to be fun to drive and I spend the majority of my time on the street with the occasional trip to the track.

If you've already got it use it and blow it up :P, then get BB later on after it goes out.
I'm peice together a complete 57trim kit, and the only parts i have left to get is the 57trim and wastegate, everything else is 100% real ETS parts i've bought threw ETS and a few guys on here. for under 750$ so far, and that leave me with 1k for turbo and 200$ for wastegate. and maybe a little more for tuning and few random parts to get it running.

BB is overrated for the price difference for this turbo. IF you were running 35+ PSI it would needed, but this is a real pump gas turbo that really does not need any more than 30 PSI. I have one on my car and love it.
I would research the RNR journal bearing turbo's characteristics before deciding to use it and before purchasing the requisite WG, manifold and etc. You might try asking on the SoCalEvo forums for experiences with this particular turbo.
If you really want a 50-Trim, I might sell off the journal bearing unit and look into an ETS kit which I think uses a PT&E(?) ballbearing turbocharger, or maybe Buschur has a 50-Trim kit. At least , I recall that Buschur Racing was working on a journal bearing 50Trim kit about 18 months ago. In fact, they may be able to help you with the manifold and etc.
The 50-Trim was really popular about 2 years ago, until the EvoGreen bolton turbo came out. There is nothing wrong with the 50-Trim turbo, although you can get equivalent or slightly better 91 octane pumpgas performance out of a Green.
If I wanted more power than a bolton Green, I might look at the medium sized ETS 57 or 58 kits. After that, if I wanted max power on 93 octane(30 PSI!!!) I'd just get an HTA 35 kit from Buschur. This is a frighteningly fast pumpgas street setup on the stock block. But dropin pistons. bearings, rod bolts and studs would be advisable if you were to decide on the 35.

20GLT by a mile. 50trim non bb is archaic. It spools much slower, has mediocre transient response and will barely give it any PEAK power over the 20GLT, not ot mention it will get romped in the midrange by the LT. I wouldnt want that thing on my car.

Yeah man, had to. My cc debt was getting a little crazy and the racing scene around here died down a little, wasnt getting the fun out of the car I used to. I miss it a lot! On the other hand, I am actually picking up my new black on black 2008 Lexus IS250 AWD later today! Got a nice slow car I can just cruise around in!
