Pardon the off topic question... When and where do you guys usually post the exact dates for this? I know we're a ways out from the 08 shootout but I would like to make plans to be there for watching this and don't want to find out about it at the last minute.

Cheers-
Erich

The Pistons are coated this time around. Last time we did not have enough time to get them coated. I am using the coating from JE. We are going STD bore this time around to get the most cylinder wall strength we can. I swapped Paul blocks from my EVO. I have a set of .040 pistons coming for his old block for my car.

Felt kinda sad taring my good running EVO down with nothing wrong with it but a good reason to get my motor built to try and reach my 10.9 dreams with a stock turbo in a mostly full weight SSL.

Wow, those pistons are messed up. What does the block look like with all that scoring on the walls ?

I hope everything else works out, I'll be watching this thread.

So what can cause the piston skirts from looking like that?

I love to learn these types of things.

I've heard the skirt is normally bigger than the crown area, and therefore, if your piston to bore clearance was too small, the skirt would be the first place to touch. Is this what happened here? Is there any other causes?

Good luck Paul and thanks for showing us this stuff to help us learn.

Our black car was at the track atleast every two weeks this year. On the dyno etc. The only official events we run the car at are ones here locally, in 2008 it will be the Buschur Racing Import Shootout and of course the Buschur Racing DSM/EVO Shootout. You guys should come down here, there's no larger gathering of Mitsubishi's and Mitsu. owners in the world than at the shootout.

Being conservative isn't going to break any records. I don't feel the boost levels you guys are running should have caused any piston scuffing either, no reason for it to do that. Anything else I will say is either information that I don't want to give our or will cause this thread to go down hill and that is not my intention So I'll leave you guys with a Very Merry Christmas!! I'm off to eat way to much food myself!

wow first case of BLACK DEATH that bad I have ever seen in an import. We have only run across that once in our race car and that was when we atempted to up the compresion to 10.2:1 and run the same boost we usually do with our 9:1 motors. Through extensive research on alky and nitro motors we found that many of them try to use the longest connecting rod possable and put the wrist pin as high up as they can so the high combustion preasures with high boost apply more equal preasure to the skirt of the piston instead of it being so close to the rings. when the pin is low like it is on the 4g motor it tends to apply more load on the top of the piston then it does on the skirt. Paul if I may you might get more from your motor if you try a lil longer rod and have a set of pistons made for it or use a set of 2g pistons with 1.130 compresion height and a set of aluminum rods made to 6.151 length. Both the 2g blocks and the evo block use 5.906 rod lenght but the evo has a 1.375 compresion height. Just an idea for you to try to get a lil more out of your motor and try to get more boost into it.
