Do you have any idea's as to what it takes for high 7's? Im not insulting you by any means but the fastest to date is AMS's 8.56. There are a lot of fast fast cars out there now, Pauls car is fast, of course AMS and Buschur, in no perticular order....

I think we all would love to see 7's out of an evo but that is just not as easy as it sounds....

Anyways,

God bless everyone and their loved ones....

Paul,

Car looks awesome and I hope you hit 08's ready to compete with the big boy's.. I think with the amount of aero work you are talking about with a diet that car is going to be NASTY next year...

Are you running a standard upgraded trans or are you in a dogbox?

Out of curiousity, what piston to wall clearance were you running? I set my motor up on the "loose" side and I hope I made the right decision. I plan on hitting with a lot of juice and boost.

You guys got to remember that there is only a few shops that have taken a 4g63 over 1000whp. Our Piston to wall was five and a half thousands. Of course now we are going to six thousands. After taking to Marco at Magnus he runs seven thousands. I show you these pics guys because i don't want to see ya guys make the same mistakes as me and to save you money. I have no secrets i will tell ya anything we have learned anytime

This is a learning experience for me and i dont mind blowing up a few motors while we are at it. All in the name of fun! lol

This time around we have a much better combo figured out from what we have learned. Thanks to Shep,Marco,AMS Martin and Tim, And you guys

One thing we have playing around with is Methanol on top of the VP Import. We have had great results with knock suppression this way

Another thing that I have learned is the #1 hole runs cooler due to the water pump and that is why the #1 piston is so much worse then the others. One guy was telling me there is over 100psi of pressure from the water pump and it all slams up on the #1 cylinder. Hoping the Electric water pump will keep it more constant. We had some Black deth on our Ross pistons at a .0050 wall but when we went to the Aries they told me .0040 is all we needed. I went with .0055 but as you can see it was not enough. So hopping the .0060 and Electric water pump will get it.

Dave I know we need to push the tune I feel I pushed it to the point of not making more hp and just hurting things.

The longer rod is an idea but I know others are doing it with a normal rod.

We are going to try our best to make the shoot out. We don't get much further away then we are from you guys.

Uh, I hate to even open my mouth, but if you guys were seriously running the piston to wall clearances you have stated then I can assure you that your engine problems are NOT in the piston to wall clearances.

Also, remember that while not many 4g63 engines have went on a Dynojet with a manual trans to put down a 1,000 hp number there are a bunch of fast 4g63's out there that have never been on a dyno and some with auto transmissions that will NEVER show 1,000 whp regardless of what they are making because of trans and torque converter slippage, which can be over 20%.

It's been 5 years since I ran 7.8's at 175 mph in my old 2g Eclipse RWD. Shepherd has never dyno'd his car and has gone 190+ mph in his AWD Talon and I built that engine. Albert down in Aruba is running 7.60's at 175+ mph in the Honda, then our old Conquest is down there tearing it up too. There are cars that were fast making huge power long before the EVO and are still out running consistently and reliably.

Not to stir the pot, but interesting...

Something else, the part about the 100 psi out of the water pump. That is incorrect. Think about your radiator cap for just a minute and you will figure out that it is impossible.

You aren't stirring the pot, just being a PITA. John has not dyno'd his car car since it was making BIG power, how's that? It's been on a dyno but he has no dyno sheets of it making any big numbers. I think the most he has put down on a dyno was 700'ish and it was at Switzers. Thanks though. Go make some soup.

So if it's not piston to wall clearance, what caused those scratches?

What is "black death"?

"black death" is what you see on the side of those pistons. It is caused by heat, the heat though can be caused from many many different things. Piston to wall clearance, cooling issues, oiling issues, detonation which can be caused by a slew of different things, anyway, I'm just a redneck in Ohio
