My catch can results...
I use a fuel filter on my breather side. I usually change it every other oil change. I use clear hose so I can see when the oil starts getting through the filter.
I use a BIG truck fuel filter between my PCV and ITM. I'm going to start using clear tube on it and changing it every oil change. Fuel filter work well.
According to my calculations, I'll spend $7 every 10k miles in fuel filters vs. $100 or so catch can. Catch cans look better and work a little better, but bang/buck, fuel filters win. So even after 100k miles of using twin fuel filters, you only spent $70, as opposed to a $80-100 catch can. They work good for me, so I'm happy.
I do think a REAL catch can would work better for the PCV side, for it catches MUCH more oil, but on the breather side, I don't see a need for a catch can. $2-5 fuel filter works great. Ghetto, sure, but who cares? It works.......

you actually save more by buying the catch can than you do buying fuel filters....65 bucks or so will get you a good looking functional catch can.....all you have to do is take the top off and check the level.....i have a greddy catch can on my tiburon and i empty it every 2-3 weeks and there's maybe 5-6 cap fulls at the bottom of it.....considering the catch cans are about as deep as a 20 oz bottle you dont even need to change it that often......the hoses are at the top of the can and the rest of the air goes back into the intake....so you dont have a vacuum loss like you do when you stick a breather on the valve cover
I don't think it does either, and it's about 10X bigger than it should ever need to be, unless there's something really wrong with your engine and you plan to drive it like that for years
hey guys i am new to this site and this might sound real dumb but I just installed a catch can into my evo and a friend just gave me a Valve breather is there a place where I can place this?
I wasn't going to reply about that because it's kind of off topic and random, but since it's being replied to...
He is talking about the little mini air filter things people stick onto the valve cover valve in place of the vacuum line that normally should be routed to the intake, instead of a catch can, or on the catch can itself.
I personally would not run one because it eliminates the vacuum line to the intake, which is there for a reason. If we just put a catch can on this line, you catch the excess oil while still maintaining the vacuum. Catch cans also work better then they are inline on a vacuum line too.
