Is a tune needed?

Hi, I am about to add some stuff to my car and am wondering if I need a tune right now. I am adding a Megan Racing manifold, BR deluxe intercooler and piping, and a 1G BOV. I am also adding a Snow Meth kit but I am not going to wire it up yet. The reason I want to hold off on the tune and running the meth right now is because I found a few safety items that I am going to add to the kit so I am not going to have the money to get it tuned quite yet, so Im wondering, do I need a tune with just the intercooler kit and manifold? I am tuned for everything besides the Intercooler, manifold, and meth, but the meth isnt going to get turned on until I have the money to get Buschur Tune.

Thanks

No you will be alright. To take advantage of the parts yes. Wait until the meth is hooked up and you will be fine.

Play it safe! Since you have an AFR gauge, observe it before you do the mods and then only do one mod at a time. Take note of any changes in WOT AFR's. Or, better yet, datalog AFR's after each mod. Also, I would keep an eye on the boost gauge as well.

An intercooler is not going to make much of a change. You don't have to worry about playing it safe with these mods. He might have to adjust boost but that is a given.

A tune is only to get the full benefit of the mods, I would also reccomend you to wait until you get the meth hooked up. You don't have to worry about playing it safe because nothing will happen.

its not necessary, but recommended.

Keep Top Level Auto an option for a custom email tune

Cheers!

I didnt think that I would need a tune till Im ready to start with the meth injection. Thanks, you were in mind, but Im only 2 hours from Buschur Racing in Ohio and have been wanting to get my car on the Dyno and see what I can make, so Im going with a Buschur Dyno Tune. Thanks for your help tho, it is greatly appreciated!

If I were to reccomend someone to tune you it would be 4 wheel slide, I've tried others but I have found the best.

Normally I would agree with you as the IC and header mods aren't by themselves that radical of a change. You'd think, that if anything they'd tend to lean him out a little bit up on top though, wouldn't you? Although that depends ultimately on the extent of the load cell shift.

Also, it's risky to generalize since he has stated in his original post that his ECU is already tweaked, and we just don't know how lean the tuner skimmed his fuel table. I still think that he should at least keep an eye on the AFR swings at steady throttle and the peak AFR # at WOT. Of course, I'm just a worry wart!

EDIT: Just for argument's sake: I removed my Green turbo and exhaust manifold today and I am willing to bet that I'll need a retune as I will be porting the manifold and swapping a ported 9.0 cm turbine housing in place of the original 10.5 housing. The thing is bound to spoolup faster and thus will need more fuel sooner. Or would you disagree? Would you also tell me that a tune will not be needed in my case? I'll still be running the same turbo and a stock(though ported) manifold.

I am tuned, but the tuner is just a friend of mine and it is still rich I think. At WOT my AFRs will real high 10s/low 11s. And from my understanding, most professional tuners shoot for high 11s. Please correct me if im wrong.

With your safe tune the header and more efficient IC should bring you down to mid eleven AFR's given the same boost level which is ideal. Goodluck!

EDIT: I will sign off now as I've been experimenting with this Dutch Beer(Ale?) which has a 7.9% Alc. content by volume. I fear that it has already gotten the better of me!

We recieved your PM's regarding the safeguards. We can help you get it all together as well as tune it depending on how far you want to take it. Keep us posted so we can send you the parts you need for an active failsafe.
