which intercooler..
You will always benefit from a better core. Even if it is not needed. I definitely gained. Also intercooler piping doesn't make hp. You gain response from shorter piping.
You are a perfect example of what I was talking about. Did you own one and just replace it with ETS or you just heard is from someone else? Probably someone else. The ebay core will only heat soak if you autocross. It cools down fast enough for drag racing and doesn't heatsoak on the street. I live in florida too So I am pretty sure I test this thing to the limit.
ebay intercooler works fine on my car, to whoever said people complaining about the ebay 02 housing. Think, search Buschur and 02 housing and u will find that they use the ebay 02 housing and coat them. Price jumps from what maybe 80 or 90 bucks to over 200. If something happens to my ebay intercooler well I am only out of 120 bucks, if I go big turbo then I might get a diff one like ets or just another ebay one.
The problem with your argument is you assume consistent quality on any eBay intercooler, and this is simply not true. There are decent eBay no-name parts, and then there are junk eBay parts. The problem is trying to figure out which are which. One thing you can say about Buschur, AMS, Perrin, ETS, etc. is that their quality is pretty consistent - high quality. I've seen guys on here crying about their eBay O2 housings and how they turned out to be junk, while others have had good luck with them. I'd rather ensure the quality of the product I'm getting and am willing to pay for it. If your priorities are different, then that will dictate which way you should go. But eBay intercoolers are not the slam dunk that some represent they are.
Try putting a quality coat on an O2 housing and see how much it costs. I'm not sure of the quality of the coating on the Buschur O2 housing, but I found it costs more to have it done separately. Yep, I run an "eBay" O2 housing - actually an SSAC one bought off eBay. I took the time to find out who a) really knew what they were talking about in plugging their eBay piece, and b) who the actual manufacturer was. This worked for me, but within 2 months after having bought mine, I saw a rash of people buying this same part complaining about problems with bad welds and what not. So sometimes even the consistency isn't there with the sole source. Who knows, maybe SSAC gets them from China and their source changed. Dunno.
I've seen people at tuning & dyno days all excited to see what kind of power they can make with their new no-name part, only to find out they've lost power, despite what their butt dyno told them, running on the same dyno they last got tuned or dyno'd. It's pretty sad to watch, especially when they realize they've not only lost money on the part, but the installation if they've paid for it, the dyno time cost, and now the need to repurchase and reinstall a part. No vendor bias here, it just sucks to be the guy who gets screwed. But I'll readily admit that cheap parts that work are awesome.
