Power Steering Pump Whine?

I have 500 miles on my car now. I drove it 120 miles just today and some of those miles were driven fairly hard (still kept it below 5k RPM though). As I was getting close to home this evening, it sounded like the power steering pump was starting to whine. Is this a normal occurence or should I take the car into the dealer to have it looked at?

In the Owners Manual (I think it was there, or in that Pit Pass video) that because of the size of the PS Pump it'll be loud, there are also coolers available as well. It's quieter than the one in my old 03 WRX.

Yea I took it by the dealer today and had the EVO tech take a look at it. He said everything was fine and that I was worried over nothing. So now I can take a deep breathe.

With 2700 miles on the odo so far I've yet to hear any whine. Not to frighten you, be reassured by your dealer, but in the past I've had a PS whine before and it was from air getting in the lines.

The tech at the dealer here in Raleigh, NC is one of the best rated 4g tech's on the east coast. People drive from all over to have him look at their DSM/EVO. If it was some shmuck that I thought I couldn't trust, I would definetly still be a little bit freightened and would probably get a second opinion. But if THIS GUY checks it out and says its ok, you can pretty much bank on it being ok.

Hey stricktly, did you check the power steering fuid level yourself? I know you had the tech check it but I was wondering if you had checked yourself?

The reason I ask is about a 1000mi ago I noticed that my steering wheel felt lighter than I had remembered, but I thought maybe it was just my imagination. So yesterday I'm driving in a parking lot and heard this groaning sound when I was turning. I checked the power steering fluid and sure enough it was empty.

Anyone know what type of power steering fluid the evo can use? I know the manual say's Mitsu genuine, but do you think it's alright to use any other type? I know with the Honda's you have to use genuine honda type, but was just wondering about the evo?

Anyone?.............Thanks
