Mobil 1 10w-30?
Mobil 1 10w-30?
My last oil change I noticed that the Mits service put 10w-30 mobil one in instead of 5w-30? I noticed this because he gave me the rest of the oil back?
Is this not good for my car, or can I get by with it till the next oil change?
Thanks

10w-30 is standard. Owners manual says you can use 5w-30 or 10w-30 as long as it's Mobil 1.
Oh, and you guys can buy Mobil 1 much cheaper than the dealership can. Buy the oil yourself (especially if you have access to Costco or Sam's Club) and take it to the dealership.
They only charge you for the filter and the time to do the change, which totaled to about $15 for me. The oil itself cost $22 for a case of 6 quarts. So for less than $37 you can get your oil changed with synthetic compared to their regular Evo oil change cost of around $60.

cool thanks,,,,,,,,,,, I know they charged like $8.50/quart for the mobil one,,,, I have also done it the other way too,,, but for one I was just wondering if 10w-30 mobil one was going to be ok or not.....
Thanks
Thanks
Mobil1 is an excellent oil. You really never have to use anything else. I myself like to use the 10w30 (summer) and 5w30 (winter).
And no doubt, you can get it cheaper than the dealer, I work for one.

When I used 5w30, the engine sounded 'harsher'. And it drove like it had less power. I assume the noise was being heard by the knock sensor and timing was being pulled.
The car felt smoother and was quieter when I switched back to 10w30. Plus, it felt quicker.
It's synthetic oil, don't worry about cold starts.

Yikes! $8.50 a quart?!? I just bought a 5 quart jug at Walmart for ~$4.50 a quart.
As far as viscosity goes, you should alway use as narrow a range of viscosity as you possibly can. As I understand it, extended wide viscosity range oils like 5w-30 and 5w-50 epecially, use alot of viscosity modifiers. Basically these modifiers are polymers that are coiled molecules when cold and when the oil heats up they lengthen. This manages the viscosity. While this sounds cool, the polymer chains get sheared and worn under extreme operating conditons making the oil less effective.
