Recommendations for HFC/Super Catalyzer

Test pipes are outta the question cuz it's a dd and I want to be somewhat legal. Therefore, I'm left with HFC...

1) Domestic or JDM?

2) What brands to consider? From reading the posts, Random technology & RRE are highly recommended domestic brands. How about JDM, Mines, Apexi???

3)What to look for in a HFC, besides 3" in & 3" out?

Thanks Guys

someone here sells a 100 cell cat but I don't know if it will pass emissions. I bought mine from ebay (catco brand) and have no problem passing the sniffer test.

Contact aby@mil.spec, they have a 100 cell for a good price. You'll not find a higher flowing Cat, then a 100 cell.

Hey Blue,

Can you smell the stench with the 100 cell?

Check out our link below.

It has a few dyno compares that might help make your decision a little easier.

PM Erik@MIL.SPEC, as this is his baby & he can provide a few other links with dyno compares that show how the 100 cell cat compares to a test pipe!

I have the Apexi and it works very well. The Milspec will gain you a tiny bit more power and costs less $$$ though. The Apexi though has better emission that any of the HFC because of the catalyst design and material though too. Its also a hair quieter than the really small substrate cats because the Apexi is a tad bigger. The Apexi is hard to find so Milspec may be the way to go if you dont want to spend $650 or wait for 2 months to get one...unless you can find a slightly used one. I just know the Apexi no carbon gets on my bumper at all even with my TurboXS exhaust and I lost almost no power going from a testpipe at my power level. Also the build quality is probably the about the highest out of any exhaust part I have ever seen too.

Any input on the Mines Catalyzer? Besides Mines, Apexi, and SARD, I don't know if any other tuners makes catalyzers. I think the SARD is a 300 cpsi so it's between the Mines or Apexi for me.

The Random Tech works well. With a white rabbit VIII turbo my car recently made 330+ with it on straight pump on DTM's low-reading Mustang dyno.

If its 300cspi I would just go with Random/Perrin/Cobb for cheaper. I bought the Apexi since its 130cspi and does its job. Some of the others are pretty much worthless when they get below 300cspi emission wise...
