Increasing boost

I have a quick question - since our cars run so rich, is it safe to increase boost to hold 19psi all the way to redline? Meaning, I could buy a boost controller and do all the programming myself without a dyno? Or would I be taking a huge risk doing that? I know you can't program the SAFC without the use of a dyno, but if this is just holding boost to redline.. input guys?

Also, if I were to get a boost controller, what would you guys recommend? I'm leaning towards an EBC right now.. I hear the HKS EVC V is supposed to be amazing, but is it worth $500? All the other boost controllers like the Apex and GReddy are like $300.. what would you guys recommend?

I run 20 PSI to redline without any AFC on 93 octane with no issues.

Lot's of folks have already started playing with their boost. Just run a search for anything regarding MBC's, EVC's and the like.

i got a afc and a profec B, i run 19 daily and 23psi at the track with no problems other than my clutch, just cant hold the boost, got arp studs on the way though, running over 20psi scares me alittle, dont wanna blow up my engine just yet

20 PSI is FINE, your stock head studs are fine to 25-28PSI, it is detonation that blows off heads and gaskets, not boost.

With ARP bolts you can run 30+

Its a 4G63 relax, on 10 year old 1G DSM blocks, they run 10's on stock internals.

Just think about how much better an EVo is.

i was wondering how much power are you guys gaining at the top by running 20 psi to redline?

also if running 20 psi to redline is so easy, then why doesvishnu's stage 0 still taper the boost at the top? because the xede chip does have the ability to control boost right? thats just the impression i got from their site.

anyways just a few things i was curious cuz if i can run 20 psi with just a bc and 93 octane without anything else... an ebc is gonna be my next item

I think some of the guys running boost controllers set for 19.5-20 with stock DV 's are actually seeing a bit of built-in taper as the result of the stock DV leaking-off and not being able to hold boost at the higher level. I think it was EVO1 that mentioned that his was dropping to mid-hi 18 psi range at the top rpm range?

Of course the nicer EBC's can be programmed to taper or ramp boost as desired.

I was running 1.35 (19.58 psi) and spiking to 1.4 bar (20.31 psi) on my EVO with 93 oct and I had no issues and no timming was pulled, I just pulled it off because I have to go get the first Oil Change and stuff though but damn it is alot better I will be going right back as soon as it comes out of the shop.
