Changing engine and gear synthetic oil (neo vs redline)
Hey all,
I just read through the archives, but I thought I would add a new thread with my plan. I know there have been other posts, but haven't seen anything about NEO.
First, I have the decel noise, so we'll see if I can address that at all.
For the engine, Mobil 1 10W 30 with an OEM filter. No problem there.
For the transaxle, I will use Redline MT90 since it is the specified GL-4 specification. I have seen other posts with positive results.
In the rear and transfer case, I will use a 75-90 GL-5 oil. I was going to use Redline, but I'm considering using NEO RHD.
I just put Neo RHD 75-90 in my wife's WRX wagon and it made a noticeable difference. WRX has a Kartboy SS, and I loved the throw, but thought it was a little notchy. Now it's very smooth with the sweet throw. I think it feels nicer than my EVO, hehe. People on Nasioc have reported increased HP and improved 1/4 mile ET and MPH with NEO oils. I have seen a post with similar results on the EVO with Redline gear oil.
Anyway, do you guys think I should try NEO RHD in the EVO? Haven't seen anyone else using it.
You can read about and buy NEO here: http://www.bakerprecision.com/neocirc.htm
Alternately, should I just keep it all Redline. ALso, what is a good place to buy Redline?
Thoughts?
TIA,
FB

Nothing? Oh well. I think I'm going to order the NEO RHD for the rear diff and tranfer case and report back.
Any info on where to get Redline MT90 for the transaxle? I haven't seen it at my local auto stores.
I only have 2500 miles, so I'll probably wait till 5K +, maybe along with the second oil change.
On a side note, I ordered a Hallman MBC and Defi boost gauge (not the link one), so I'm pretty psyched. I was going to get Vishnu or Works, but we recently found out my wife is pregnant so I have to go a cheaper route, heh.
Thanks,
FB

I used NEO on my NX and was pretty happy with it, though having never used Redline or any of the other synthetic gear oils, I really don't have anything to compare it to.
I am thinking I will go that way when the time comes, but we'll see...

Cool,
Thanks for the input. Almost all of the posts I've seen on the WRX forums have been positive with NEO and I had great results in my wife's WRX.
I just ordered 4 quarts of the GL-4 Redline MT90 and 2 quarts of the NEO RHD.
I'm going to swap it out when I get to 5k miles or so and report back.
Take care,

we should have some trick parts in the near future.
