problems with evo!

hey guys, i got my evo in march and ive been loving it ever since, but lately its been acting very strangely. I have a bushshur racing filter and forge recirc BOV. I installed the BOV about 2 weeks ago and the cars been doing great. Anyway, the new vacuum hose i got to fit the new BOV was faulty, and got a new one about 4 days ago (if that holds an relevance). Anyway, the car isnt running right at all. Theres almost no low end power, i almost have to floor it to get the car moving in the first gear, and even then it seems like it doesnt want to go. When it finally starts moving the RPM's surge to about 6500, drop to 4, and fly back up to 7. Basically, theres almost no low RPM power, and ALOT of high rpm power. I let the clutch out at about 4500 last night to see how bad, and the car wouldnt launch at all. It would roll forward like normal, and the rpms would fly upwards again, it's very strange. Could it be i need a new spring in the BOV or something along those lines? I havent been driving it because im afraid of hurting it. I put on the yellow sping in the BOV kit and it was even WORSE. I might resort to reverting to the stock BOV to see it that cures the problem. If you guys know anything about whats going on it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Put your stock BOV back and check all the air hose(intercooler pipe), Do you have a boost meter ? if boost is ok, I think is your bov. let us know what happen after you have your stock bov back.

Check ALL hose connections. It sounds like you could have a leak...

I think the stock BOV can hold more than 19 psi ! before I put my
TurboXs RFL bov, I am running 21 psi with the stock BOV without any problem.

Sorry buddy but thats what mine started doing right before the clutch went out. It gets worse and worse until it won't move. I would give it gas then it would do nothing and then it would shoot up about 3K then it would drop and start rising again..

Hopefully it is somthing else!!!

If you want to find out if its the clutch just get it going a MPH that will allow 4th gear to be at a low RPM and floor it. If the engine raps out or revs funny it could be the clutch, this technique especially works if you are going uphill. I guess another surefire way to tell is just stick it in neutral and use the gas, does it still stumble and rev funny when not moving/in gear? In all honesty, you should definetly be able to tell the difference between driveline slip and a poorly running engine from how it drives. Good luck

Yea, it was the clutch oh well, its getting fixed right now. Basically the clutch was catching way to late and way to weak, thats why I had to give it so much gas and it would catch at the high rpms. Oh well, I've heard there have been many complaints on the stock evo clutch, is this true? If so what's a performance clutch thats works well with the evo and will last longer than 10000 miles I'll just baby the car till I get the better clutch, thanks for the help!

I get a little stutter sometimes (like a flooded engine) when I gas and then have to clutch it. I don't think it's a vacuum problem. BTW if you run hardpipe on the IC or have an intake kit your boost will go up from stock. I am about 22psi right now with the stock BOV.

Reset the ECU by disconnecting the neg terminal on your battery for at least 1 min. Then see what happens.
