That's what I dont' get either. If I'm going to go with the GSC S1s and I don't need to upgrade the springs and retainers, why spend the extra money to do so?

I have the S1's, and see no down side with them, only gains. If you want to check out similar mods see my thread with dyno comparisons to stock from Sunday, The most important part of the equation as usual is the tune. S1's don't need valvetrain upgrade so you can spend the coin elsewhere. Good Boostin!!

While you are changing cams isn't it worth doing the springs and retainers too?
yeah, and S2 is also better for bigger turbos. you will need to upgrade springs, etc.
