Is it time for cams?

Hey everyone I just recently had my car tuned and dynoed at IveyTune. Mods & Power numbers are in the sig....anyway, my goal for this car was close to 400whp on the stock turbo. I'm already planning on buying a better flowing FMIC w/ piping, but after that should I upgrade my cams? And if I should, what would be good cams for the stock IX turbo? I've heard alot of good things about GSCs, Cosworths, etc....I don't want something too aggressive...just something that will help me reach my goals! Also there's the flip side: do I even NEED cams at all? So please, help me with my modding plans!

cams are good anytime.
if you choose right, cams will not only help to spool but will give great benefits throughout the whole power band.
I have GSC S1 and I love them. (I think its something you might want to be looking into), I'll say do cams first then intercooler.

I'm doing my cams (GSC S1s) and the intercooler (ETS 3.5") at the same time. But as far as the OP is asking, it is always a good time to do a cam upgrade.

I have HKS 272's very nice! On my 2G i had BC 280 even nicer! And yes i to think its time for cam upgrade. Do them then I/C. 400whp shouldnt be a problem once your tuned properly.

I appreciate the replies guys! So the GSC S1s would be a wise choice for my plans then? Also would I need to upgrade the springs and retainers too?

Just do them all while your in there. You do not need to upgrade springs and retainers unless your planning on revving the car past its rev limit alot. Id get it to be on the safe side. GL

I would agree that on a 9, the GSC1's are probably the best option. On my 8 I had hks 272's and the stock ecu and they worked great together!

i did the research, GSC S1 = best overall cams for stock turbo or green

you might want to look into adjustable cam gears for the exhaust cam. i heard retarding it a few degrees gets the most HP. however, this claim is not supported by GSC.

i also know that cosworth makes a good set for stock turbo.

Adding cams and an fmic wont get you to 400, i'd guess ~375. Go with the S1's if you are looking for something to get you into boost a little quicker and also help up top. There are others that will get you a higher hp but will slow you down out of the hole. Search around and you'll find different dyno sheets showing how boost and whp is affected by different cams.

thats true, you need more to hit 400.

i am just aiming for 350, so with the mods i have, i think i can achieve that

+1 to the S1's if you have the money, if you don't, the 272 brian crowers work really well for the price
