By doing the pull at 1:1 ratio, the MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE of the transmission doesn't play a part in the final numbers. That's why all of the tuning runs we made were in 3rd gear, less stress on the motor, but still good to tune to. Then, when final pulls are made, the whp/wtq will increase, due to less mechanical advantage. Think of it in the same light as a fulcrum and lever. The longer the lever, the more mechanical advantage you have and the less amount of work is required to move the other end(weight/resistance). 1:1 it's the same force (resistance) on each side. For tuning, 3rd is fine, then 4th for final tuning. At least, that's how I've done it and the same for DB. I think I've seen several other Top tuners do the same. Put a car on a dyno in 3rd, do a pull. Then, go to 4th and do a pull. Big difference in numbers.
I didn't know that most of the final pulls coming out of BR were 4th gear. I understand what you are saying about the effect on peak numbers, but using 4th rather than 3rd gear will result in a dyno graph showing a broader power band since the turbo will spool at a lower RPM in 4th than 3rd, and I'm pretty confident that most posted dyno graphs on EvoM are 3rd gear pulls (at least with VIIIs).

Smithey did that with a 75 shot, it did ~ 530 at 24 PSI on C16 on a hot day.

I miss him, hope Carla is doing OK these days.

Yeah, I thought he hit like 602 or something without the spray at like 27psi? Huh well you most certainly know better than me Anyways, he was a major inspiration to me and all the DSM community(especially fwd guys). R.I.P Smithoid

Dave,

If I ask real nice, can you post a boost plot of the pump gas tune?

I know you probably don't log it on the dyno, an AEM screenshot of the MAP sensor and RPM would be good enough.

Pretty please?

Subscribed. Can't wait to see what he pulls at the track.

Sorry, I wasn't around during those days. Well, I was, but it wasn't here. But, , I'll still drink one down for God and country.

Very nice power. The best thing is the power band. Peak power is 470, it looks it already had 460 at 6000 rpm then never went lower.

Awsome

If that were true, the Buschur Dyno numbers are already lower than most in comparison to the times being run at the track. Now, just picture the other dyno numbers going even higher, but their results being the same at the track as they were with the 'lower numbers' due to 3rd gear pulls. It would make the difference of dyno vs track results even more impressive. Not too sure that MOST of the graphs are 3rd gear. I'm sure that some are, but read any top guru's books about dyno's and you'll find that they ALWAYS recommend using the closest gear to a 1:1 because of the mechanical advantage issue.

at which boost did the car make 440 on pump?
In the first post, it's said to be 30 psi. Then on the post
that includes the dyno plot with race gas, it says 38 psi on both pump and race gas.

Just want to make sure

It made 440 on 30 psi on 93 octane and made 470 on 38 psi
