I ran the Fidanza gears for about 40,000 miles on my last 4G63. Like Greg said though, the hardware is pretty small on the Fidanza gears.

Pick the best cam for your application first. If you want an even better match to your needs, then cam gears can be helpful.

I ran the HKS 272 cams on the stock Evo 8 turbo. I run the HKS 280 cams with a 50 trim.

Greg:
You thought of making your own set of cam gears? If so how much so i can send you some money to get a set going....

Damn I was gonna purchase some Fidanza cam gears, too. I ended up seeing something like this http://fidanza-is-crap.com. Any thoughts on BLOX cam gears? Reliability? Or do all cam gears have a higher failure rate than stock?

It's really quite simple.

Aftermarket cams are timed all over the place. Anyone who believes that all these cams makers invested countless days of hands-on research trials to successfully optimize the settings to meet all applications is living in a fantasy world, because no such thing exists.

Cam gears are best suited and most effectively used by those who either:

(a) Know how cam timing affects power delivery
(b) Are willing to learn how cam timing affects power delivery
(c) Want to tweak their setups to maximize performance for the intended usage

Not everyone wants to take this step, and that's just fine. It definitely isn't for everyone.

So the question is simple . what are the best Cam gears I could buy ?

if you have tomei camshaft why not go with tomei cam gears as well

it doesn't really matter, not even as close to cam choice, just get a set of aem gears and call it a day

If your going to run the cams straight up stock would be the way to go.
