I was at Ennis the day Robert was at the track with the FP red and I have to tell you that his car was a beast. I think the red will be a great turbo in the states where they are very emissions strict, like California, and for the price you cant beat it.

Over time, we'll see the data points that allow direct comparisons on a number of characteristics. The pros to the Red are quick spool (compared to a 35R), great HP and torque under the entire curve, and still 60 lbs / min of output.

A 35R will make more peak lbs/min of flow. Whether you can use it on the street or at the track will depend on the rest of your setup, and how well you can launch in a smaller RPM window, particularly if you have cams, etc.

The Red is not the ultimate HP winner compared to the 35R, but its characteristics will appeal to alot of people who wanted more ultimate HP than a standard Green setup, with a little more lag, but not 35R lag, and 550+ HP on a race setup is a promising indication that on less modded cars, it will give alot of "bang for the buck".

So if I live out on some backroads where I have a lot of twists and turns should I go with the 30R? I like the potential of the 35R, but I still want it to be fun everyday driving and I'm more of a corner carver than drag racer. I think it's way more fun than driving in a straight line. However, I do still want to occasionallly smoke whover tries me. I don't live where there are a lot of Evos so I don't have to worry about other evos. It's mostly corvettes and muscle cars where I live. I also read where the HTA 35 has a faster spool up time, on the AMS website they say it spools around 3400-4000 rpm. They say their GT30r spools around 3200-3800. So what would be the best choice? It's been driving me crazy trying to decide what to get! Thanks for any help, I'm a newbie but you guys are teaching me alot!

FP said their claim of 56lbs/min for the Red turbo was deliberately underestimated to make sure NO customers ever saw less flow than that and got upset.

Kind of like they rated the Green at 47lbs/min, and individual tests showed that it really flowed closer to 49lbs/min...

Can't remember what a 35r flows. Like 65lbs/min? If so, that is not much more than the 60lbs/min the Red will supposedly flow... Anyone know for sure on the 35r?

Never going to happen or it running down a 35r either. Its a great turbo for the price and performance but it will not hold a candle to a 35r in the 1/4 end of story. Road racing well thats a whole other story

Power to spool the red is sick

It is not possible to compare a Red to a 6262 "mod for mod". The 6262 won't bolt on to a stock manifold, or use "stock" type exhaust connections. Most T3 frame turbo setups will require a header, a different O2 housing, an external wastegate, etc. Those changes make it hard to compare the effect of the turbos alone, but you get the idea, I'm sure.

In addition, where and under what real world circumstances they're compared would make a big difference. From stoplight to stoplight, the 6262 would have to be "running down" the Green or the Red, since either of the stock appearing turbos would spool faster initially. On a drag strip, unless you're an experienced driver, the Green or the Red would have a better launch window, spool quicker, and bog less than a T3 frame turbo if you missed the "sweet spot" a little. With both setups at ultimate HP, the 6262 would probably make more HP, but it's too early to have enough data to compare the" area under the curve" for each of them, which for real world driving would be more important to most folks.

All I'm pointing out is that both varieties have their strengths and weaknesses. Pick the tool for the job you're trying to accomplish and you'll be happy with it.

I was told that the Red has the same cold side wheel as the HTA3076 not sure about the hot side, hope this helps. Now the fp3065 has a cold side wheel of a 35r and hot side of 30r.

I was hoping the RED would fill the road race gap for me. One reason I stopped looking at the HTA35 was because Mellon, once commented that it fell out of boost going to 5th.

...but +1 for the twisties.
