I'm thinking there has to be some car that uses the opposite side plug that the factory coils do. I might go the the yard tomorrow and see if I can find one. I'm also going to look for the cars that use the new coils as OEM parts and grab some of those plugs.

Good thing is, plugs fit in pockets. As do odd and strange bolts the dealer charges an arm and a leg for.

I have several sets of the MSD packs at the shop but haven't checked the for resistance as of yet. I am certainly not opposed to using them. I don't know their exact specs but I assume they are good. It's currently working very well and I have bigger bears to hunt at the moment.

A normal sized spade connector "Fits" into the space for it. You really have to jam it in there though. Start off getting one corner in and then rock it side to side and it will go in.

I'm not sure exactly what they use on the OEM harness for that connection but next time I am at the junkyard I will find out.

BTW, I also have an extra Ignitor if someone needs one.

The "harness" for the OEM GM coils isnt a harness. It's the ignition module. Basically 2-3 coil packs bolt onto a plate that contains all connections, ignitor, etc.

MSDs work pretty well. I run the gap at .062" but being an ES it's an NA motor. Thinking about switching the setup to the IX but I'll have to get new wires.

Ok, so I'm doing this mod next week. Got the coils, waiting on the ignitor, and wondering what wires to use for the connections between the COP connectors, the ignitor, and the coils. What gauge wire?

Also, I currently have an HKS DLi-II ign amp and wanted some input as to whether or not I can continue to use this along with the new ignitor and coils.. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

I used 16 or 18, can't recall but it wasn't huge or anything. The wire doesn't have to be massive or anything.

And to update, my car is now running 25 psi, 11.2-11.5 AFR at a spark gap of .027 using BPR8ES plugs without any hiccup at all. I have a few more mods coming up in the next week or so and will be hitting the dyno shortly after. I am hoping to get proof of concept that this ignition system is good for at least 400 whp but I am not sure if I will hit that mark. I have all the support stuff to make that power but I am on a VIII turbo with a 10.5 hotside so 400 might be a stretch.

Alright I just read through all 9 pages very patiently. I did gain a lot of knowledge of ignition systems and got an idea of what I need to do. I was really hoping that I would have seen an updated set of instructions and part numbers.

If anyone that has successfully gone through with it would do a little updated write up even in a new thread would be cool.

I am honestly not trying to be a jerk here and yes I can come off that way sometimes.

Did you miss post #90 and post #98?

90 had all the part numbers, minus the DSM ignitor which is a junkyard part and 98 has explicit wiring instructions for the entire setup pictures included. I don't know if I can give any more detail without breaking it down to the physical function of cutting the wires and crimping them together.

Nah I just havent messed the the ignition system at all and never had a older dsm to start learning on. I got most of all the instructions what I am more so lost on is the ignitor, what is it, where does it come from, and is there 2 parts to it like male and female ?

Thanks again. Broxma

Edit:: went and reread all 8 pages again and i think i have it down now. Im just still trying to figure out if I can go find this ignitor in a local auto recycling yard. I just dont know what im looking for and where it should be.

Ok sorry to be a bug but Im still on the hunt for wires. Im not having any luck at autozone and speed shops in my area. For some reason they cant grasp the idea of what Im trying to do and all I want to do is get a set of wires for the gm coils that have 90's on one end and a deep spark plug end.

If I dont get any suggestions I think Im going to buy the msd street wires. They are 8mm and instead of a full cap its just the pencil type end ? That shouldn't matter right ? And if I go that route Im either going to pull the top end caps off the stock ones and put them on the msd ones just to make a nice seal still.

Thanks again Jeremy
