Separate Ignitor/Coil system working on stock ECU :)
When you guys get this all ironed out I'd love for someone to make a concise post that indicates all diagrams, all instructions, all claims of increased performance, and all part numbers found within this thread. lol, I'm an ME for a reason. Barely passed my EE classes.
Could someone post up some info pertaining to this setup being used with the AEM EMS please, specifically, the AEM Coil Dwell Wizard choice I am going to have to make or the Coil Dwell settings themselves. Thank you!
Im not sure if this has already been covered somewhere, but im wondering if there are better ignitors out there other than the dsm one ?
Im sure dsm guys have been on this for a while but I cant really say I worked on dsm's back in the day. Im just curious seeing if I spend the money I would always rather upgrade if possible.
Cant wait to try these coils out. I get blow out i believe usually part throttle in a high gear. I say I believe because I could be wrong but it hesitates when this happens and it like studders like when the car is cold.

Yah I believe you want the dsm lead end for the head side as for the coil side I think dsm ones dont fit snuggly. Im just going to buy msd wires with the pencil style tops and go from there. I just got done making the bracket to hold it all.

question to the ignition gurus....
Could you split the ignition input wire, say, for coil 1 to fire 2 ignitors?. For like wasted spark C.O.P??? is it possible.

Here is the crude diagram I came up with and a few pictures of the install.

It is mounted on an aluminum plate I made at work through the two holes now vacant from removing the harness.
...
I put a bend in the mounting plate of about 15 degrees. It clears both the factory strut brace and the hood. I used some rubber between the plate and the valve cover to provide some flex. I didn't want the plate to break the valve cover with a rigid mount.
I took it out on the road and ran the car up to 7800 rpm, did a few 17 psi pulls in 2nd and 3rd and it performed well. The real test will be at the track in a few weeks.
Yes I built the short route UICP myself at work from some scrap mandrel bends we had lying around. I'm also building my own intercooler from core drops we have sitting around.
