Engine pull thread or write up?

Im pulling the motor and trany out of my evo VIII, this is my first time pulling a motor/trany out of an evo but not my first motor pull. I just want everything to go smooth and find out if I need any specialty tools prior to the pull so I don't get stuck.

Ive searched but came up empty https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/se...archid=9261589

If someone could give me a link for write up or alldata (that would be great!) id appreciate it.

Your going to have a loss of knuckle skin during the process. If you need any help let me know. I just pulled the engine/tranny from the top which I think is a pretty easy way to do it.

Will you have access to air tools or a portable impact?

That i don't mind, thanx for the offer ill def be taking you up on it. Im assuming you took the trany and motor out in one shot and left the TC in?

OR should I pull the trany and then the motor?

I put my evo on a lift and just dropped everything out from the bottom, super easy.

Well I think the easiest way is:

Remove axle(s), have fun with the ball joints, and axle nuts. I would remove both axles so you can move the TC aside and not have to fight with it, although you can get away with not removing the passenger side one

Unbolt DP, and remove turbo and manifold

Remove rad for safety and room

Remove most top accessories, battery, intake piping, etc.

Disconnect complete wiring harness and move to drivers side of car (wrap in towel)

Disconnect AC and PS and move aside

Disconnect clutch lines from bell housing

Unbolt Transfer case (6 bolts) and separate

Remove engine mount bolts, and complete transmission mount.

Out she comes!

Notes: The TC bolts are probably the most difficult, especially with the intake on. The axle nut is (I think) 32mm and easily removed with a portable impact. My axles were a PITA to get out from the trans/tc. Everything else was painless.

Good luck

Oh, and I am pretty sure you need a slide hammer to remove the shaft out of the transmission that goes through to the TC. Other wise you cant separate the TC.

Good luck

the ball joints don't ever have to be seperated. the axles can come out of the hubs no problem with the strut disconnected from the hub... those two bolts are very easy to remove.
