NY/NJ/CT...I need help ASAP
I received a call from my local mitsu dealership that the Twin Plate Exedy Clutch I dropped off needs a special tool to line up the twin plates before they can install this.
Is this true? And if so, where is the closest that I can find a tool like this?
Please help me. Thanks.

I'm amazed the clutch didn't come with it. Did you try calling Daikin Clutch or the store you bought it from to see if they could send/sell you one? Perhaps it should have been included?

A pilot tool is basically a black nylon tool that has the same spline/shaft configuration of the stock tranny input shaft. The tool slips through the female splines of the clutch disc(s) aligning them as you insert the tool. The very end of the tool slips into the pilot bearing(see end of crank)and once in place provides proper clutch plate indexing. Once indexed the pilot tool is removed and then the clutch plates and pilot bearing are aligned and ready for the tranny input shaft to be installed.
I wouldn't think the twin disc unit would require a special pilot tool, but maybe? Perhaps they just don't have a pilot tool for the Evo ?
Good luck in your quest to find one, I wouldn't think it would be too tough. BTW- these tools are typically about $10-25

the service manager mentioned that since it is a twin plate, it would need a special alignment tool.
The tech that was working on my car previously mentioned that regardless, clutch work on an evo required a special tool, but he quit yesterday...lol
So now, I have the manager calling me today, telling me the new tech says that it needs something special for the twin plate.
Needless to say, Im confused.
Does anyone with experience in the install of a twin plate clutch know if a special tool is needed for the TWIN PLATE install? Or is it the same tool that is needed with any clutch install on the EVO?

In this thread Adam from Z1 Performance states:
So maybe try asking him where to get the tool.
The Exedy Hyper and Dual disk clutches do not come with alignment tools or throw out bearings - only their less expensive clutches do (aka their Sport Line, though they don't even offer these for the Evo!)....it never made sense to me either and I have made the request they change it many many times already

PS - make sure they put your clutch in the right way - its balanced as a unit - and CLEAN it !
All you need is a tranny input shaft - you slip it through the two disks - - then you eye ball it to get it right in the ceneter - - (there is no stub that goes into the flywheel)- - when its dead center you start to tighten the screws - 5 min job
Can anyone in the area possibly let me borrow, or @ worst, buy the tool from you if you have it? My car is @ the dealer now, and now they are charging me storage because my car is taking up a bay.
