Coolant temp problem. :(

I was driving today, just normal driving and i noticed my temp was way up there. almost red line hot or what ever. so i pulled over and noticed my radiator wasn't overly hot. i could touch the core no problem. the coolant overflow was pretty full also. Any ideas? i can't check and see if there isn't any coolant cause it's still too hot.

my guess is your not leaking because your resovoir is still full. It seems to me that you got yourself a bad thermostat.

There not that pricey to buy and put in your self.

Check your thermostat housing for anything blocking the coolant passage through it. Also, while you have the thermostat out, check to make sure it isnt gunked up. (just follow the radiator hose right to it on the right side of the block if your standing in front of the motor).

Were your fans coming on? If not that could be the problem. If they are, and you still have high temps, check your grounds. My car had faulty grounds and caused the temp to shoot up everytime the fan went on.

Finally, it may be your temp sensor itself, which is fairly cheap. Its just a regular single pin sensor.

yeah the fans where on. I can crank the heat on with the fan at full blast and that seems to keep it relatively cool. I'll check the thermostat now

Just boil a pot of water and put the thermostat in there and see if it opens. That will tell you if it's sticking or not.

OMG guys, this is such a easy fix... I had the same thing happen to me before and all you have to do is plain and simple. If you have access to a ECU data logger, see what your ECU see's. If the temp. is normal all you have to do is buy a thermostat. Cost less then $20 bucks and takes less then 4 minutes to install. When I had the issue the fans would come on, the over flow had coolant, it's all normal. Just check what the ECU see's 1st since it's independent to what the actual thermostat see. Hope you get the fix.

Ok, I think I am having the same problem. At first, I thought it was a pinched coolant line, since I just installed the stock upper IC piping. It was still overheating. Then I noticed that every time the fan's turned on, the temp would shoot up past the 'H'.

What ground should I check?

I just reinstalled the stock airbox, upper IC piping, rightside lower IC piping and stock BOV. I don't think that would mess with any grounds.

No one can tell me what grounds I can check in the engine bay? There are a couple in plain sight, but I know there are more I am missing.
