Possible Dead Ecu?

Thumbs down Possible Dead Ecu?

Ok car turns over and does not fire. Here is what I have checked:

NOT getting spark
NOT getting fuel nor injectors are not firing
Battery and alternator are fine (even tried jumping it)
ALL FUSES ARE GOOD, I even tested every one with a fuse tester in case there was an issue.
CANNOT CONNECT TO OBD2 scan tool, says error linking

I also tested the obd2 connector


\1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8/
\ 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 /

ignition off
Check for 12v+ on terminal 16.
Check for ground on terminals 4 and 5
ok
4 to 5 = continuity
4 to metal = continuity
5 to metal = continuity
metal to metal = continuity LOL
16 to metal = no volts!!
16 to 4 = no volts!!
16 to 5 = no volts!!

I did a search and this thread about water leakage at grommet: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=342599
took off tire and checked behind the inner fender well and no leakage
I checked all connections and no corrosion!

So I went over to my friend's house who also owns an 03 popped in my ECU and changed immobilizer and it did the same thing as my car.

Here is what I think it weird.....
I was able to at least read my ecu in his car and actually flash it.

Any suggestions? I am at a lost and I might be buying another ECU.

I think I covered all the steps.

Sounds like your ECU, although I have yet to hear about somebody's ECU going bad in an Evo. Did you try swapping his ECU into yours to see if it would fire up?

Take it to the dealer they should be able to fix it at a discount im sure this is not something you did.


On a side note if you do take it to the dealer have your car reflashed for stock tune.

I was going to but he has ecu + installed and a custom harness and I did not feel like messing up his clean install.

Problem with that is it is out of warranty and prior to me owning this car, it was already under a full factory warranty restriction by the previous owner blowing up the motor and Mitsu putting a new one in.

Wow, that sux. If it won't link, I would definately say it's the ECU. Have you had it flashed or where you running any kind of piggyback?

Well like I said, i was able to flash my ECU in my friend's car without a problem (although it still would not start).

My roms have been modified by Shameless and honestly I truly believe that has nothing to do with it.

I did take my ecu cover off and look at it and there was a yellowish "glaze" on it I thought was weird. But i was still able to flash it. This is weird.

The yellowish glaze doesn't really make sense. It wouldn't be a short because if you had a short, you shouldn't have been able to flash it. I've just never heard of anybody's ECU just kinda crapping out like that. If you're up in York, why don't you run it by CBRD to see what they think. It just doesn't make sense that if you're ECU is shot that you can still flash it. But, it's definately your ECU and it's either shot (which the yellow glaze, I can only imagine that would be a short somewhere but I've never seen a short cause a yellow glaze) or the roms are off.

I am going to try to put a working ECU in my car to see what that does. If that still does not work, I will definately run it by Chad! This sux!! I am driving around in a 95 Ford Taurus GL automatic

That's about the best you can do. Might as well give it a shot before you go out and buy a new ECU. GL with that taurus. haha. Better than the powder blue PT cruiser I got stuck renting about 8 months ago. It was all they had left. haha.

and would you happen to know the proper procedure to check relays? I did swap the 3 main relays under hood.
