Rod Knock? Need help please!
Rod Knock? Need help please!
Hello community I need some help. I have a 2003 TB Evo with 63k miles on it and now im faced with an engine problem. With 30 miles left on my extended warranty. Went take care of it and basically it comes down to dealer wont honor because lack of service records. Tried to fight it and now it comes down to a receipt
a rod knocking is oftentimes the rod bearring.i replaced a motor because of this, within 10k miles the motor i replaced started(i am kind of hard on cars) this was a 1991 civic si so it was a different make but the reasoning is the same.i pulled the crossmember and header off, dropped the pan and replaced all the rod bearrings with the motor still in the car.this is by no means a substitution for an engine rebuild but at your engines mileage i would check the compression if all the cylinders are within 10% of factory spec i would replace the rod bearrings.this will save you alot of cash and buy you some time to save up for that 2.3 stroker kit when you do get it rebuilt!

You don't have to take it (up the a**). A bottom end is a pretty expensive rebuild.
Fight 'em on it. It could be worth 5 or 6 thousand dollars to you. Get the BBB, corporate, the fuggin state board of corporations(or whatever they call themselves) involved, or even sue 'em in small claims if you need to. Don't even threaten it. Just go down and file.
That might even be the easiest solution. $45 or so, and you're basically dealing with common sense, rather than the letter of the law. First thing to do is make sure you have a copy of whatever information they gave you regarding your warranty at the time of purchase. Honoring your warranty doesn't cost the dealer anything. They might even cave if they see you're serious. Getting served by a Marshall would most definitely get that point across.

Rebuild bottom end for about 2000.00 and it will be good as new and you will then have a car thats like new again, dont just replace the Bearings, if one went bad could be something else and you might just be making it better or not even, Best to get it into a shop and get the block cleaned and such, If you see metal in the oil just think its going through the whole car, turbo, everything. Its not very exiting when you really start thinking about it. try some Lucas Oil, its thick and sticky, might help a little if you go cheap but best to do it right. I hate doing things twice,
Okay sooo, I was just trying to get the car off my hands and got smacked with a noise and self irresponsibility for not keeping track of my receipts. If it were you guys trying to get rid of it wouldn't you go with fixing the bearings just to get the noise to go away and then sell it to the dealer so they could most likely fix it. Sorry for giving out a bad evo to someone!!!

Take it to another dealership. F@ck it, take it to an auto repair shop that specializes in Mitsubishi who will accept warranty work. Most of the time they will work with you warranty company with lower costs and no BS.
WTF makes you think that replacing only the bearings is even going to keep it lasting as long as your "for sale" test drives? Your journals could be messed up. That sucks that happened to you. Welcome to the world of Evos and
dealerships. I knew from doing my homework before I bought my Evo that I was going to be pretty much on my own with these cars. If you really are into your Evo and fast cars, step the **** up and build that bottom end, and you'll be well on your way to having a better than new Evo for less than the cost of getting a new one. Otherwise, sell it with a discount being honest about it's problem. Once you look at the amount you will lose in this, it will make sense to just fix it properly.
Don't deliberately pass your bad luck on to someone else because you got screwed. That is just perpetuating the cycle of BS in this world. Do the right thing and be a better person, and be rewarded with an engine that's ready for anything you will throw at it.
If we don't hear about your engine build, I wish you the worst of luck selling that Evo on this forum.
