FP4R cams

Hi, anybody using these? I've been searching for a while but found nothing. My setup is "mild", with a green, AEM, injectors, full 3" TBE, intercooler, ported manifold, meth... Just want some cams to improve over the originals on the top end (mine is a european 260), but without loosing much on mid-low, as I auto-x it.
Any help???

For your goals, these cams should be perfect. The 4R's will improve both midrange and topend. I've seen the cam profiles of these, the Kelfords, GSC S2's, and JUN's. The JUN's are the most aggressive 'ramp rates', but the profiles of all 4 are very, very close, with opening and closing only slightly different. These cams should work very well with the Green turbo. I'm currently running the FP5R's, which would be much too aggressive for your use, so your choice of the 4R should be spot on.

I'm running FP4R's on my EVO with a bone stock 03 turbo and even at this level I saw decent gains. I'm seeing about a 8% rise in IDC at the same AFR, boost, and IAT levels from 5k to 7k.

Actually Sir, 4R's are of a higher accel/vel design overall, with exception of both close ramps and exh open ramp. Open/close ramp velocity is tied into spring surge and valve bounce characteristics. We chose a spring and rev friendly design, thus the 'R'.

How would you compare them to HKS 280s? That's what my car came with, I'm planning to run them on stock springs with a Red. Would it be worth swapping to 4Rs or leave well enough alone?

I just installed these cams into my car. I have not perfected the tune yet, but they sound cool at idle.

Yes indeed. Also very strong top end.

I have no idea what HKS '280' valve motion looks like, and no plans or desire to purchase a set to measure. At any rate cams that have similar valve motion will have similar performance with only subtle differences.

9sec9 why did you change from your JUN 272's to the FP5 cams? Would you recommend Kelford's, GSC S2, or the JUNs for the Red?

The specs on the FP 5R's 'showed' that we "SHOULD" make more power, but until we could dyno them, we weren't sure. The JUN's did real well for us, so I didn't change them without a little reservation. Scott at FP and I spoke on several occassions about the cams and issues with MIVEC to watch for. We still don't have the cams QUITE dialed in, but they're close. Without the cams being maximized, we made substantially more power over the JUN272's. I think I posted the before/after dyno sheets somewhere, but in a nutshell, the power above 5000 was something like 25-40 whp on Davids Mustang. Uptop, the power came with 12 of each other, then the 5R's started separating from the JUN's again to where at 8000, there was something lilke 25-30 diff. Since our motor spins to 9400 or so, the power at that point is probably even greater. Since no one has posted MIVEC settings for cams like these, we've had to spend a little time with the tune, but the MIVEC adjustments worked real well for idle and power. At this point, no way I'm going back to the JUN's.

9sec9, do you think you could get away with the 5R's on a DD, or would it be too much of a hassle?

I run them in my own EVO9, and I can either make it lope like a SBC or purrrr like a 4G63 should depending upon the mivec map.
