Exedy Twin Pull vs. Push

I am still on the hunt for the exact clutch that I want to get and I was wondering what the real differences are for either of these clutches. Is the push style really a big upgrade and improvement? Is it worth the extra money? and is it really any more reliable? I have searched for info on the upgraded kit that AMS offers and I cannot find much about it so someone please help me if they can. Thanks!

i had herd that the reason evos use a pull type is cause DSMs used to have push types thats why they got crankwalk and that by switching the evo to a pull type it maintained the 7 bolt motor but got rid of the crankwalk, personally i dont think its truly needed and i would stick to a pull for the life of the engine

I havent heard of any push style clutchs causing crankwalk on evos and they shift like grease lightning! My shifts like butter with a push type QM with 82,000 miles on a stock tranny with countless 11 sec. passes and lots of hard street driving/racing.

^How many miles now on your QM?
I really don't like the pull type on mine. I wish I bought Tilton before.

I had the standard exedy twin disk hd but since the clip kept popping off the shaft leaving my car immobile, I bought the push style upgrade from AMS and haven't had a single problem with it yet.

Same kit thats used on the AMS drag evo apparently.

32,000+ with one freshening up. It improved my shift quality tremendously over the pull style.

I switched my exedy twin from the pull to an AMS push style. It defintely shifts a lot quicker.

Interesting, it would be interesting to know for sure or not if the push style causes or enhances the chances of crankwalk

Well after searching amelessly all over the web about this issue I could not find any information that leaned towards a push clutch causing crankwalk. However, I did find it quite interesting that the evos were switched to a pull type clutch after the evo IV which was famous for crankwalk according to many sources and what I read from evo IV owners. This just seems odd to me why Mitsubishi would have switched to a pull type clutch. I know I am drawing a lot of conclusions here but I do think it is viable and it should be checked into a bit. In my final point, I do understand that some people on here have been and are using the push type clutch on their evos and have gotten 30k+ miles so far however, a lot of the DSM's that crankwalked had more than 50k miles on them, this is what makes me think that maybe the push clutch users have not seen that worst yet. I am not saying by any means that our motors are prone to crankwalk more than any other engine in any car or that push type clutches do for sure cause crankwalk, I am just trying to decide whether the push style clutch helps weigh in favor of crankwalk occuring or not.

Revising an old thread. Wondering whether a push clutch is going to eventually lead to crankwalk on my Evo 9 motor.
