383 WHP with no bottle or piggyback!
The magazine states that al's car is the fastest evo 8 in the world. Can you name a faster evo 8 curently(the norris evo is a 7). I don't see any other evo 8s in magazines that are trapping 120+ so that claim is legitamite to me. This flaming back and forth **** is ridiculous. Al merely tried to point out that this king of power level on the completely stock system is stupid, which it probably is. Injector duty cycles are static and the pump might not be able to keep up. If i were the owner of this gt 40 kit i would simpoly agree and thank other people for the advice, especially since Al has been down the road and just trying to be helpful. All you people flaming Al and pruven only makes it harder to get first hand knowledge. What does it matter to him if you lean out and damage the motor? It doesn't, he was just trying to help you. He may have come off a little harsh but only because you are flying in the face of conventional wisdom and just bolting a big turbo(very big in this case) on a motor and not taking into account anything else (fuel timing, internal engine work) into account. I understand you have big aspirations and applaud you if you have the funds to accomplish them, but this turbo is not intended for it's current use and the additional lag is not worth the loss in spool at you level of mods. What is the point of running a turbo that spools at 5k rpms with a 7500 rpm rev limit? So you can say you have a gt40? Not trying to be a dick here but it just pisses me off that people try to flame someone who's trying to help. Knowlegeable people are hard to come by in the tuning industry and pissing them off will only discourage them from taking their own time to help. You guys bash Al and pruven and prase some small shop who throws a gt40 on a stock motor, stock fuel system car, WAKE THE **** UP!

Who is driving faster than me ???
All this fairy squeaking aside, has anyone picked up the Nov Turbo & high tech performance? Cover car sounds real close to the point of the thread... Is this the shop car where MMLVMM's hooked up?

I didn't like the dyno sheet either - no real power till 5,000 - too laggy for my tastes for a measely 400 whp

Why are people *****ing about the area under the curve already? Is he done with the car? Are those the final results? No one wants to buy more turbo's than they have to...so buy the one that fits into your plan.
Good luck to all. I am done with al's noise and I am going to be to busy for a while...
AEM, bosch pump, injectors, jic coilovers, welding custom suspension pieces and a lot of dyno time...
To anyone who actually read, this post was about my first steps , not a finished car. I started this post by trying to show what an awesome car the Evo is and how much potential it has.
I think I will not waste words on the progress after seeing so much noise over the first few steps... I am more into the driving than the bragging like poor al.
Hasta and good luck.

I think the simple problem with the article was the fact they misprinted; it was supposed to read world's fattest ego, not world's fastest evo. Brag on Al.

Yeah too bad we can't learn a few more tricks ! Its a crying shame. I don't know how we will live with the loss. Please reconsider and tell us all about your next steps.
But - maybe with statements like this - "Hit 383 at the wheels at 1.6 bar... No bottle, no piggyback, stock injectors and stock fuel pump.? I won't be missing that much with your next steps ?

On the exhaust, I will get some pics asap. It is the protoype borla developed. I loaned the car for almost a month. Maybe ask David Borla to post some pics. Anyway, It is 3" and very straight with the xr1 exhaust. Usual Borla quality. They worked on it 2 twice before getting it right for my car. I think they got it really right. It seriously growls without being too obnoxious.
Regarding the fuel injectors and pump issues... I have a clear roadmap in mind and fuel system upgrades will be addressed as mentioned. I got an a/f ratio of 10.4/1 at 6700 rpm on the dyno . Clearly the stock injectors haven't choked yet... I will upgrade because of reliability and I like having a wide comfort margin...
Regarding the dyno numbers... I watched them done without any monkeying. Different dynos are different dynos... If you want to compare cars, dyno them on the same dyno. The real point from my perspective is:
Everyone, that is around 150 whp more than stock with probably quite a bit of room left for when I get to tune it with the aem.
This car is so buildable...
I can't wait to get the aem in...
Regarding pics and the like... lookup the socal evo.net and the recent sept meet has some pics with a red evo that are my car. FYI, it was awesome. I think there is a cu of the intercooler up also under that post.

Just confused about your a/f ratio. The reason is this, I installed the HKS 3037s Kit together with an upgraded i/c. I'm also still using the stock fuel injectors and pump. Without my piggyback (xede) my, a/f ratio will be ridiculously high. My last dyno run only yieled 350whp @ 21 psi/12.5 afr. Maybe our cars are different...seems like I got the short end of the stick.
Ben
Give the guy some props for crying out loud.
And Al, I don't know you but you realy seem like a conceated *****. You make me want to sell my Evo because of guys like you are drviving them. Who cares if you have the fastes Evo. Who cares if you are in magazines. Not all of us have an assload of money to do what you did to your car. I got a suggestion for you, loose the chip on you shoulder tough guy and start acting like an adult.
And another thing, you aren't the Evo God, unlike all the other sheep on this board think.

Ben,
Nice to see an intelligent post for a change. Your mods sound awesome! I don't know if I have anything to say you don't already know but you asked so...
First of all I am 2 pounds more boost at 1.6 bar 350 sounds right at your boost level when we did the earlier dyno run. I think it was 357 at same level.
Fyi, are you in CA? I wonder if there are differences in the ecu settings programmed in ca cars vs. everywhere else. The a/f was measured via wide band on the dyno fyi...
Bottomline, I can't say about the a/f ratio-
350hp sounds about right though from my dyno run at 21 pounds.
You obviously want to have a computer and dyno time to make it worth the trouble. I am running much richer though.
The power difference could also be the difference between the gt40 and the 3037. Bigger turbo = more lag (subject to tuning) but also more air flow at a given pressure and higher max boost achievable.
You should have no problem getting it higher but all pumps injectors are not created equal.
Everything comes down to running more air through the motor with the right ratio of fuel mixed in.
For major bump in power + money needed to be spent because of the necessary upgrade on internals, increase your volumetric efficiency - You could be maxing out with your 2.5" hks exhaust.
I think you get more air though the engine with a turbo and you have more power. Downpipe, exhaust is all 3" on mine.
Head work, valves springs, cams etc. You would want to upgrade your internals... can you say stoker kit!
Who knows just how strong the forged evo rods actually are. I have heard speculation of good till 400hp and .... something.
The question is are you willing to bet everything on finding out?
Proper tuning and for anything beyond temp use- fuel system upgrades should by themselves, send you solidly into 400 whp.
Just my 2 cents
Best of luck
