SES P0031 issue

I've been researching my SES light so I can get my car inspected and haven't had much luck finding anyone who's had this code: P0031 HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low

Right now it's coming and going at random-- sometimes after getting gas, sometimes after sitting in the cold. Usually its on for a period of a few days or more and then it will just not come on the next time I start the car.

Im not exactly sure what the code means but if someone has any insight or history with this I would really appreciate the info.

Its just a lazy O2 sensor. Replace it and be done with it!

Front o2 sensor is probably done. How's your gas mileage? Any race gas lately? Installed an 02 housing?

thanks

No O2 housing or racing gas-- running 93. The dealer should cover replacing the O2 sensor under warranty right?

If you're lucky and have absolutely no mods...maybe. You'd be surprised what they will and won't. All you can do is try.

If not a new sensor is $220+ i believe.

Hmm

Anyone know who the 'friendliest' (least awful) dealer is in Mass?

Ugh.

Well that was craptastic. I paid out $45 so they could tell me they wont touch it. Whoever owned the car wired in their own O2 setup and apparently its not to spec. They told me it would be $340 for the O2 sensor and around $150 for labor. ...$500

I called the place that sold me the car (who told me it was covered under warranty) and they said Id have to take it to them and their Mitsu dealer would "maybe" fix it. Of course being in Mass and them being in NY I would have to lose 1-2 days of work and expenses getting there and back so it would probably wind up costing the same as doing it here.

Im attaching pics so people could check it out the current setup and maybe offer up thoughts/ideas on it. Im almost thinking it might be more the wiring setup than the actual O2 sensor? Maybe the it needs more shielding?

Well... going to try to put a 100miles on the car today while the SES light is temporarily out and see if I can get a sticker.

Wish me luck.

Indeed.

I was able to get a sticker today. Now I'll take the time to rewire and properly shield things.
