Here is a short clip. You should be able to hear it from 3 to 5 secs.

I recently got a ride in a local Evo with a new Exedy twin, and it barks or howls a bit during clutch engagement in the lower gears. Noise from the plates rattling around when the clutch pedal is pushed in is less than I thought it would be.
Haha I refer to mine as Chebacca too. I get it starting off in 1st and reverse, occasionally shifting into 2nd. Its only when Im being careful, usually in parking lots when theres people around, I try not to make too much noise or take off too fast. for a while it made me feel like a terrible driver.
No noises in mine but I am having a hell of a time finding the right engagement spot for this clutch. I have adjusted it a few times already and just when I think I got it right it will give me trouble going into 1st or Reverse.
Just installed an Exedy twin SD after 80k + of single disks. Sill breaking it in with about 200 hundred mi. on it so far. It made a clattering racket on start up cold with the pedal down, but has quieted down a lot as it beds in. No bark and I really like this clutch so far. Some great info in this thread on spring alignment.
FYI I never had barking problems with my Exedy twin until it got some miles on it and about 20-30 launches. When I went to AWD motorsports to upgrade to a triple they showed me the intermediate plate and floater disc and the flat springs were broken and distorted. Thus causing drag on the clutch discs and "sideways" engagement. I had adjusted my clutch numerous times yet still had issues getting the car into 1st and reverse and also causing it to have erratic engagement points all the time... this way my issue anyway....
Yea i have the exact same thing. Perfect description of the noise. Its completely normal from everything ive heard but sometimes it does it much more often on every shift and other days never at all. Think it has something to do with how hot it gets.
Dont sweat the rubbing noise its simply the discs squallin at each other every now and then. No harm in that.

I hate to bump this back from the dead.
I'm on my second exedy twin disc, my first Exedy twin was relatively quiet (bought it used and rebuilt it) and had a clutch stop. My new (current) twin disc makes all kinds of noise (rattling) when shifting and decelerating. I've driven it close to 30 miles now and not to satisfied with this clutch now.
Has anyone noticed if the clutch stop makes a difference with the noise.? I did install a ACT Monoloc Retainer as well.?

Mine made a little more drivetrain noise/rattle on decal than the ACT single disk I took out. And the clutch itself rattles some when the clutch is disengaged (pedal pushed down). Idk how bad yours is but, I chalked it up to normal with all those parts floating around in there.
