The X MR has a gearbox oil cooler from the factory - it's in the left side between the left side foglamp opening and the inner fender shield (with air exit holes in the shield). It probably just needs more airflow, maybe a fan so it'll cool when stopped. Removing the foglamp (and maybe the LICP??) and a little ducting will get much more airflow across the cooler core. A fan could also be added but that would only help at low vehicle speeds.

If I ever get that problem - the SST gearbox overheating - I'd rather install a different [coolant] radiator with an auto gearbox fluid cooling loop. Much more cooling capacity that what an air cooler cna provide. Maybe next summer.

I did a short research on this when I was deciding between a MR and a 5-speed. But the only thing I see missing from that kit is a pump.

A Mocal 10 row x 3" high with a 11 3/8 or 6 5/8 wide core should get the job done depending on what kind of road racing is involved short or long track configuration. An electric Mocal pump with either -6 or -8 lines and a stainless mesh screen filter should round out the package. Proper support of the cooler and a rock screen is necessary to prevent cooler breakage. In the event you can not locate Mocal products Earls Indy or C&R Racing in Indianapolis can help you out with cooler, lines, pump, and fittings for your specific application. I hope this helps. Indy

Look up member KidLoco (I think there's a number like 61 or something after his name)
he made a very nice, very clean, and effective tranny cooler for his 6-speed.
