Amsoil Help

Ok, the search section has been down on here all day, and i really have to order oil. So here goes.

I currently have been running Amsoil's 0-30 SSO oil in my stroker Evo. Since running this oil, I have had major oil consumtion. 6k miles and I have went thru 3.5 gallons, yes gallons, of oil. In a 200-250 mile fuel fill up, i will have to add 1-1.5 quarts of oil.

Ok, so I have dont the compression check when I first started noticing it, it was good. I also check for oil leaks, i have 2 very minor ones, that have only slight residue. None that says " HEY IM POURING OIL OUTTA HERE!!"

Well, I was thinking and talking it over with my engine builder and my brother, and we remembered that when on normal dino 30wt oil, I had ZERO oil loss. Zip, Nada.

We think that the Amsoil is possibly too thin? And allowing it to be burned in the combustion chamber. (when i back up at night, i can see puffs of blue when my headlights hit it. Also, when under WOT it blows blue smoke like crazy.)

I say all that for help switch to another Amsoil oil. What weight should I use?

use the 20w-50 then. only reason to use 10w-30 on a stroker is really cold weather, 20w-50 is too thick. In SC I would probably run 2050 year round.

i use the 10w-30XL amsoil and dont experience any loss..

i did notice this, however, in the listing you posted above....

"SERVICE LIFE
AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil is recommended for extended drain intervals in unmodified(1), mechanically sound(2) gasoline fueled vehicles as follows:"

this was only listed the the 100%synthetic listing not the XL listing...

I dont know about the 20-50, wouldnt it be too think and cause lifter tick? It isnt too think to run thru the small passages in the head, or thru the oil restictor for my gt30 turbo?

Sebastian, you can try our thicker oil, i am not sure what your engine builder specified according to the tolerances he gave to your internals.

another idea do you blow blue/white smoke @ WOT in any gear, WHERE IS THE OIL GOING?
IS TURBO SEALS OK use 20-50W

I agree completely with that, something doesn't sound right to go through that much oil, even with looser tolerances for forged internals and such that expand. Did you do a second compression check pouring a little oil down in the cylinders and seeing if the c/r was higher with the oil? That would usually indicate a ring sealing issue if it's higher than a "dry" reading. Either that or your rings never seated properly during break in.

dont be affraid you would be alright with it, i have many evo8,9 and X customers that sware by 20-50 and they run it all they long, and are running over 400whp. however i think i would use 10-30w

however this thread is not about what oil to use, is about you burning oil.

i am not sure why are u using 0-30W why not the conventional 10-30 like Mitsu the manufacturer of the 4G reccomends,

is your engine builder reccomending 0-30w

There shouldn't be an issue running a 0-30w oil. The only difference between a 0-30w oil and a 10-30w oil is the cold start protection ratings. Otherwise they as specified should operate the same.

If you live in a climate where you see temperatures under -10F like alaska you probably should use 5-30w or 0-30w. Or if you're crazy like me and drive the car when it isn't warmed up fully getting to work maybe the 0-30w is just peace of mind.
