Throttle Body Coolant By-Pass???

Aight guys, I thought i blew my motor tonight toying around with some friends. Smoke and steam was everywhere!!! Come to find out i just split one of the coolant hoses from the Throttle Body to the block. Lost over a gallon of Antifreeze. Well there was a few LS-1, LT-1, and Mustang guys there and they just told me to By-pass it. So i did. I was goina replace to split hose but after getting home and them showing dyno graphs of Camaro's and Transams gaining upwards of 7-10whp from this by-pass im thinking bout leaving it this way. Not like i EVER need to worry about the "freezing" temps in Biloxi, Mississippi. Has anyone else on here done this? Any side affects besides a cooler Throttle Body and more power lol? Thankx in advance!!!

I do believe the Skunk2 throttle bottle bypasses the stock coolant path.

Doing this little "Mod" is as old as the 4g63 itself. We did this as one of the first "Free Mods" back when DSM's were baby young. Almost all cars run coolant through the TB. I would think an NA car would see a higher gain from it rather than a blown car though.

Did it make any power? Dunno. I don't know if anyone ever bothered to dyno it. It makes sense that it might but how much is probably less than a small change in atmospheric settings on the dyno.

Is it safe? It is effectively an emissions device, heating the intake air at cold temps. Is it safe to remove your cat or safe to block off the EGR? Sure. Your bypassing it, not blocking it off. Even if you did block it off, it would most likely still be safe as the dead water in the blocked off hoses would be insignificant in the grand scheme of the cooling system.

does it make power? no
does it allow for more power to be made through cooler IAT's absolutely.
we do this on almost every car we get into the shop. like you stated we do not have to worry much about the ambient temps here getting too cold. which has kinda bitten us in the *** this week

just bought a skunk 2 68mm t/b, they are eliminating the coolant lines from the gate with their t/b's. i dont htink it will make to much power but it definately wont rob any.

High idle while the motor is warming up.
