If you are lean then that will cause knock. Knock will retard the timing and retarded timing caused the turbo to glow. I think that about sums it up.

Ive seen it happen, on my 8 with 9 turbo when I use to go up angeles crest after driving hard id pop my hood and it would be fully glowing, but it would have to be pitch black for me to see it. My friend with his bone stock X would get the same thing. Its normal to an extent.

It's normal for them to glow with a high load on them.........check out youtube.
If it's glowing at idle, it's insufficient timing advance.

When it's dark, you'll see a glow that you won't see in daytime.

Is this even serious? Turbine housings and exhaust manifolds get red hot. It's what happens when the exhaust gases traveling through them are over 1500* at WOT.

But EGT is less than 700 F when idling and not many people get to look at a turbo when it's under full load.
They cool down quickly when off boost.

how the hell do you get low 20s, I get 16 if im lucky
