Glowing Manifold

Hey guys.
My friend started his Evo III today after some very long down time. The bottom end was rebuilt, so was the head. It was down for a bout 6 months and today was the first day it started, he drove it home very soft after it was started and noticed that the turbo manifold was glowing when he opened the bonnet..

Any ideas on what could have caused this?

That sounds very odd with gentle driving. What manifold and turbo?

i thought if you were running rich, egt's were cooler. lean = higher egt's. that would also cause fuel fouled plug(s). correct me if im wrong. just trying to help narrow things down.

you know, we had this same issue with a car / turbo setup that wasnt ran for a few months... he drove the car light for a few more times, and everything seemed to go back into place... it may be because the car hasnt been driven for a while? wondered about this myself, but the car fixed itself... try checking the plugs? see what color the tips are???

Lol thanks guys. Thanks aj! Will deff try to get this sorted out.
Ill try and get the timing checked out today. Then try some different spark plugs wires and check the plugs a little later on when I get off of work.

If its running to rich, it could be dumping fuel into the exhaust manifold where it auto-ignites on the hot manifold. This can cause the manifold to glow as well as potentially cause higher EGT's.

The cam angle sensor got messed up 6 months ago when the car went off the road, so the timing was messed up. Put a new one on and he's fine!

Thanks guys
