red manifold

the other night the snow came down pretty good, so my buddy and i decided to take our evos out and do some snow drifting.

after drifting around for a while i decide to do a 900. I step out and i can see my exhaust manifold glowing bright red through my hood vent.

its a junk megan manifold that came with my car that i will now be replacing, but has anyone seen or encountered something like this? also snow drifting stories are welcome

yeah im not really too worried about it. It just shows that the manifold was poorly designed or isn't as heat resistant as it should be.

i got an FP Green installed in my 8 and the hotside literally turned red the other night as i was "driving" next to a heavily modded Cobalt SS. wonder if thats normal or if its a sign of my turbo going bad? (100 miles on NEW Fp Green lol better not be my turbo)

I don't think its normal at all, usually a manifold glowing red is a symptom of the car running lean... Make sure the hose on the fuel pressure regulator didn't pop off, if it did, ziptie that thing on. I've never used one of those cheap mani's but I can't imagine they do that on a regular basis... If so change it out asap, bad for your turbo to be exposed to such heatsoak like that.

nothing to worry about if your driving the car hard... especially on the megan manifold cause its so thin

i think it's also a symptom of just pushing the car alot too isn't it? i dont know i just know when my STI was glowing i was beating on her all night and she was tuned at sea level and i live at 7k feet so she ran pig rich, i was lucky to hit a 10.2 afr and that's as lean as she would go. i'm just curious if the turbo was going out too lol

i dont really think my car is running lean but I dont have afr gauge to be 100% certain. One of the guys i was with has been a mechanic for a good amount of years now and he said its pretty common from something like this to happen especially on a dyno or getting beat on

Not an issue with your manifold, if anything its an issue with your tune. The manifold and turbine housing on my RX-7 always glow after being boosted a few times. If the manifold really is junk it will crack after so many of those heat cycles...

Sorry to bomb up a new post since the last one was a year ago. I was just curious looking this up because I notice all the time after I get off the high way for lets just say 5 miles with my 2010, mine always has a slight orange glow to it. nothing bright and I only notice this at night. I have to obviously open my hood to see. It's had me wondering if Im driving such short distance like that and it glows a little, what if I decide to drive a long drive like 10 hours? Speed limits are 70mph 90% of where you go and I run 80mph all the time which puts me at 4k rpms constant. Just to me doesn't seem like its a healthy thing on the manifold because of the constant heating from a high temp and cooling.

This is perfectly normal, even on a stock car.
