well... my clutch finally died at about 16k.

i had one track day with 5 runs( clutch drops) and probably about a good 15-20 on the street...

im not blaming anyone, i know it was my own fault.. although i still think it's worn prematurely...

i had the clutchmasters stage 3 clutch installed... i love it! it took a little to get used to at first- it grabbing so aggressive and all!

but i have 550 miles on it now, and im starting to play with the car ( you have to let it break in for first 500)
the car feels really good.. and even feels quicker!
i was nervous about the clutchmasters cuz i read so many mixed reviews.. but so far i give it a thumbs up.. as far as pressure is concerned,, its definately not any heavier than stock.. in fact at first it almost felt a little lighter! but if anything its very close to stock..
oh yea.. and i decided no more 6k drops... even if i can beat someone, or get a better time at the track.. its not worth it to destroy the clutch...

Talking NEW 3RD AND 5TH, CLUTCHMASTER STAGE 3

I got my car back 10 days ago. Gearbox feels much better than when I bought it. I'm still breaking in my Clutchmasters stage 3.
BTW the dealer installed the BOV backwards. It sure makes the car lurch when it unloads.

The dealer charged me $100 labor and $30 to resurface the flywheel. Remember the trans was already out of the car to repair synchros under warantee.

CLutch Fees

Wow, you’re lucky.

My clutch was about $800 for parts and labor. Some people have been stuck for $1200-$1300.

Unfortunately, my car was in pieces before I knew they were denying my warrantee claim. AND the made me install a Stock clutch again Now I am at $19000 miles and the clutch is smelling with normal driving.

TIME TO UPGRADE!

Stock clutch sucks. Cheapest alternative is probably RMR. I went to Clutchmasters stage III. Do not go back to that dealer. My dealer let me install an aftermarket, it's not covered by warantee anyway.

I have the 2900 lb ACT kit with upgraded clutch disc option from www.roadraceengineering.com paired up with a Fidanza flywheel from them and absolutely love it, very good price/performance value. Let it be known that in actuality it took closer to 1000 miles for a good break in, not the recomended 500, maybe this is just with my lighter stylel of driving though, but yeah check out RRE they have some nice offerings as far as clutches go, plus they are even offering their "stealth" clutch that they make for the dsm's for the evo now, I like this idea.

Guess I could call them, but any of you ex/current DSM guys have any experience with the "stealth clutch", or more importantly, can tell me the difference between it and the ACT? I know it is the same friction material used on both with the "optional disc" (ACT). I'm just interested in "feel" etc.

Just wondering if this only affects early EVOs...
I agree please include the build date to see if it can be narrow down to a week or month worth of cars. Crap happens all the time at assembly plants!

SC, who's a moderator here on EvoM, was also a first shipment (and I assume Jan 2003). I believe his stock clutch is holding quite well too, at over 25K+ now.
