So only less than 1% of the EVO population is burning up clutches? Perhaps should include free driving lessons with the purchase.

God your retarded.

If you think all 6000 have been sold, your retarded

If you think all 6000 people are on this website, your retarded

If you would bother to look at other posts and polls you would notice that there are around 180- to 220 evos that even participate on this site. but you wouldn't do that because your retarded.

Check out the "what color you drive poll" there are less than 200 evos that have polled. that would = more than 33% of us on this site clutchs have fried.

If you are going to post some trash in a poll that is purely there to get a head count, don't, nobody wants to read it.

where did you get your driving skills bad attitude, rally liscense on GT3 doesn't count either.

DON'T trash this poll it is non baised and only getting a head count.

I think I got a warning for my last post, do you poeple feel I was too harsh.

I said no curse words, and I only stated the obvious.

EVERY time someone has a problem 10 people jump their cases and call them whiny *****'s and tell people they need to learn to drive and whatever else. Me and everyone else gets tired of it.

So I guess you have to let people post ingnorant and harassing things in your threads, and not do anything about it!

it seems to me that there is a problem with clutches, sure its not effecting every car, hell its not effecting the majority of them,

but again not many people are over 15k miles yet or even 10..

I talked to a mitsu part rep lastnight, he said "wear" items maybe covered up to 12k miles, is that what it says in our warentee book (left mine at home & cant check it , im assuming it doesnt say that otherwise there wouldnt be so much contraversy)

I have just over 12k miles on my car, its in for tranny service (5th gear synchro) They are checking my clutch and will probably replace it for a discount rate if not free while their in there.. who knows what will happen, however this is the only problem with my car that I've had.. Its bad to have a tranny problem, but I've been treated very well by the dealership so I can't complain. However I haven't experienced any of the clutch problems others are describing. The service manager at the shop said they've had 2 other evo's in for Clutch service.. he figures it was probably abuse. He never said if they were being covered under warranty though.

For anyone who's having problems with their clutch after dumping it, youre an idiot. Evos are AWD you dont just dump the clutch on them like you might with rwd, theres a lot more **** going on in there. Its not faster to just dump the clutch either, despite what you may think. Ive noticed a lot of people have had this problem with wrxs as well b/c of the same reason. It's like taking a drill that's spinning real fast and then jamming it into something hard, it's highly likely that the drill bit will snap if you force something that's spinning that fast (imput shaft) and trying to make it stop and grab what it's trying to drill into (clutch). You never take a drill and start trying to punch it through walls and what not because that's just plain stupid. You slowly allow the drill to grab what you're trying to drill, thus "slipping" the clutch. Besides, if you drop the clutch in a turbo car, you're more than likely going to drop it out of boost and have a ****ty start anyway.

ruff, no one said they were dumping the clutch in this thread. This is a head count vent elsewhere. SOme have been abused SOME have not. 64 people in our little club here have fried a clutch I would guess less than half where actually caused by abuse.

then again it depends on what you consider abuse, some feel driving fast at all is abuse, so redline all day everyday and feel its not abuse.

who knows

Dumping the clutch would cause parts to break not to wear out prematurely.

I think it would also be VERY important to know how many of the failed clutches are on modified EVOs. Seems that many of us here are modifying our cars as that is the main focus of these forums. Every other car I have owned and modified, I fully expected my clutch to go at some point at which I replaced them with a purpose built part to hold that power.

The EVO makes tons of power with few modifications and I would think it all gets felt the most by Mr. Clutch. Every AWD manual transmission car I have owned or driven has a soft clutch that smells nasty when you have to slip it at all. My Subaru forester is exactly this way. My understanding is that the clutch is made that way to reduce failure of “non-intended” wear parts such as diffs and transmissions… I am not saying that there is not an issue with the clutch on the EVO, but I am saying that it seems more likely to fail when modified and driven in a way to reap the benefits of those mods.

When my clutch goes (knock on wood, 12K so far) I will happily pay to replace it with one that is designed to hold the power I am making OVER stock. I see it as another performance part, no different than a set of cams, ECU upgrade, boost controller, etc… I don’t think this poll is really that telling until you sort out those who drive hard, those that have mods, those who have failed clutches with neither…

Just my 2 cents

10k miles .... Clutch gone

Yep its gone. 1st the clutch felt a little high b4 full engagement.

2nd the clutch began to slip, but only under hard excelleration.

I took the car to the dealer, and trying not to be insulting with an insulting comment, they said that "I must be mistaking Turbo Lag for Clutch slip" ..... GRRRRRRRR ........

My reply

I drove this car for 10,000 miles and I previously owned an eclipse Turbo..... Think I can differentiate between turbo lag and clutch slip #$@%.

3rd ... Took the car home, drove for 2 days approx 200 miles (Went out of state)... woke up,,,, clutch slipping worse .... took directly to the dealer.... "Oh yeah ..... its slipping" says the nice service tech.

The service manager and the District manager agree to cover the clutch under the 12 mo 12k mile new car warrenty.

They called me back the next day, and decline coverage until they can take it apart and inspect the clutch, pressure plate & Fly Wheel for abuse.

End result ...... They decline coverage, but they will cover the tear down. The service manager says that the clutch looks excessively worn.

Bottom line ...... THIS SUCKS!

Anyone know what it costs with labor included to replace the clutch & Flywheel on an evo. ? Just so i can reference the quote they gave me, minus the 450 for the tear down.
