service engine

So this morning I went out and started my car to let it warm up before work. It was about 15 degrees outside. I didn't notice if the service engine light was on, but I noticed it about 10 minutes down the road on the way to work. I'm gonna go to autozone to use a code reader. But do u think the cold couldve caused this?

We would all be taking a stab in the dark until you scan the code.

It doesn't help that lastnight on my way home from work, a dump truck ahead of me dropped a chunk of frozen mud, that banged around underneath my car. Thing is, I didn't see a the light on when I went to he gym later in the evening. I'm wondering if that's something that couldve caused it. I'm asking around my battalion t see if someone has one of those car doctor things so I can read the code. I really don't feel like waiting til tonight to find out at autozone.

Do a search for "Creeder" it reads and clears codes for a reasonable price, I keep one in my EVO. Comes with a booklet with all the possible codes, very easy to use.
That big chunk of frozen mud, might have hit your O2 sensor and pulled a wire, I would look at the rear one.

If it makes you feel better, my service engine light comes on every cold morning because of my cams. Same misfire code everytime, P0300 I think. Get a scanner from autozone, I paid $100 for mine, works pissah. I also think autozone will scan your car for free.

You may try bumping your idle up to around 950 rpms or so, I used to get a P0300 at idle quite a bit, bumped my idle up and no more P0300 code...

or instead of buying a obd reader...purchase a tactrix cable...and evoscan...and be able to log your car...and be able to view and clear diagnostic codes...

I get the misfire code every now and then. I use to use my friends scanner to clear it, but now i just let it clear itself after a few days. I should invest in my own scanner though.

There's a code fix now that kills the P0300 code. I read about it here about a month ago.
