you don't use water on the IC sprayer, you use washer fluid. Water would freeze during winter and such. Straight methanol will destroy the hoses and plastics, I would assume. I took my tank off just recently and will probably put some kind of hose to direct air up to the filter. I never really used it for DD, but I had it on auto during track days.

Don't really know if it made too much difference, but it did a little bit. You could see the temp gauge lower down when it sprayed on the IC. Some people claimed it helped a little when they had their cars on the dyno. But honestly, it's cool but you aren't really missing out on much. I'd rather have ACD and Super AYC to replace the IC sprayer.

The IX dropped the sprayer since the hydraulic reservoir for the dif. occupies that real estate. On a hot summer day, for us 8's the sprayer is bound to provide at least a small benefit to intercooler.

I wonder if the redesign of the front air dam on the IX offers as much (if not more) of a benefit - would be interesting to see any some info on this: evo VIII vs IX stock intercooler air temps or what not. I just figured that in order for the sprayer to be really effective it'd have to be on A LOT.

I assume its not very useful because if you are driving it the air would simply dry it off before actually making any difference? So the comparision would not be all that helpful.

All the talk about the sprayers not being effective comes from the car magazines that tested the Evo back when it arrived on these shores.

They'd run the Evo through the quarter mile with the sprayer on and with the sprayer off and not see any difference in the times. Well, you know they weren't holding the button down for continuous spraying because you can't do that and shift gears. So, whether the sprayer was running or not was controlled by the ECU. It may not have been spraying at all depending on what conditions the ECU was seeing.

In my opinion, what the sprayer is for is to control knock when conditions are hot. Less knock means more power. If you aren't heat soaked then it probably does make no difference.

If the water sprayer's are so useless why do they still use them on the overseas evo X also?

It's not useless... ANYTHING that lowers the temperature of air passages will lower the temperature of the air. Like my man said, reducing heat soak and knock in the process.
