Same thing happened to me last winter! Roughly 40k miles, stock bottom end, stock belts, no stock undertray.

Ended up spending $800 at a no-name sinclair shop getting a new timing belt cog and crank pulley, mine was completely gone. I am 99% sure I hit a chunk of ice about the size of a fist. I had just done a pull or two and then ka-thunk!

I tried to limp the car a bit and almost died on the side of the road.....worst day in the evo evar.

This is more common than you would think. Definitely not a rare occurence. Its happened to a number of folks we know including our own ATi unit broke all 6 bolts! Which is why we will never recommend this product, instead the Fluidampr.

I wonder if it would benefit to go with a light pulley.. like UR... but you have the harmonic damper or balancer argument. It clearly makes power and dyno graphs I have seen show a increase of 10-15 whp and torque, is it worth it?

Not unless you like harmonics of cranktwist. Long term the UR pullies are bad news. Flywheel bolts and pulley bolts tend to back off and microcracks can start leading to damaged cranks, etc.

A good indicator of the bolts backing out is occasional belt squeel/squeek.

Good thing the engine is ok though

How do you check the bolts? Can you see them from the looking down from the shock tower, or do you have to remove the wheel and check through the fender well?

Red loctite is used in the installation of any crank pulley by us.

We have Fluidampr's available if you want to replace yours with one.

I will get with ya by the end of the week on ordering one!

and the bolts BROKE off into the harmonic balancer I tried to drill them out with a ez out and a left handed drill bit but its a no go!! I am going to go ahead and replace the timing belt ( even though I had to do that like 2 months back because it jumped teeth) and everything else while im at. I have 40k miles at the moment ... might as well
