Sorry to bring this back from the dead. This just happened to me on Sunday morning on my way home from a friends. I was on the highway going approximately 70mph- loud bang, belt came flying off, followed by the crank pulley rolling down the highway after it. I was in shock when I realized the bolts had completely broke off. In the process of the pulley coming off, it decided to take out the water pump and a tooth off of the crank sprocket. It apprears the timing belt is intact and the car continued to run normally. I pulled off the highway and got it towed home the rest of the way. I have a Fluidampr crank pulley on the way, as well as a new oem waterpump and sprocket.

How prevelant is this issue? When this happened to me I figured this was a freak accident and I was shocked when I came on here and realized this has happened to numerous people.

Just for reference my car is an 04 and has approximately 82k on it. I did the timing belt myself at 60k and I know those bolts were on there properly/tight enough. The car has mild cams (hks 272's) but I figure this may have lead to extra vibration the crank was not seeing prior. Outside of that, it is a stock internal 2.0l block. Just wanted to find out if this is something all Evo owners should be aware of and become part of typical maintence to check the bolts on this pulley? I am very paranoid now and will definitely be checking those bolts during every oil change just to have some piece of mind.

Just happened to me today, luckily my car was just idling in the parking lot at work lol.

Glad i'm not the only one! Hopefully I can get the bolts out of the Timing Belt pulley! I dont want to mess with timing until my 120k service/built motor!

Here's a little carnage pics:

It must've been pretty loose for my couple hour long drive the day before, because it wore into the back of my crank pulley lol

My timing gear came loose at 30,000 miles and killed the head and my crank.

Any occurrences of this with someone running Fluidampr or just stock pulley? I am running the Fluidampr and hope to never have this issue...knock on wood.

I installed one also with arp hardware including an arp crank bolt. Either way I will be keeping an eye out. Anything could happen again.

This is most often caused by a misshift or hitting the rev limiter. That is also the number one cause of loose flywheel bolts. If you do overrev I would recommend checking the bolts pronto. Some of you guys were rocking loose bolts for a while as evidenced by the thread marks in the bolt holes.
