Kelford Cams Selection

Hey guys I just put on a Buschur Racing FS635 Cast Mani Turbo kit on my car and was just wondering what kind of cams I should get? Should I stick with the 272's or go with their 280/272's? Car has a stock bottom end with all the bolt on's. BR double pumper coming soon along with fuel rail. I have 1050cc FIC injectors. Thanks guys!!!

Not sure what type of cams would go well with your setup. You have the cast mani, so spool will be minimal. You might not pick up much going from 272 to 280's. My buddy just got Kelford 280/280 and he loves them. They pull harder up top.

Depends on if you plan to run upgraded springs or not.

Some people run the 272s on stock springs; if you are keeping the stock rev limit, this is fine.

I have the 272's on GSC beehive springs and can rev to 8300 or so with no problem.

If you go with the 272/280's you will def want upgraded springs.

No one has done a back to back comparison on the kelford 272 vs 280 yet to see if its worth it, but I will say that I upgraded from HKS 280's to the Kelford 272's and I love the kelfords. Idle is nicer, power up top is better, just all around a better cam, but it IS more aggressive and harder on head components.

I have the Kelford 280/272, although I'm on stock turbo still. I think that with your turbo kit, you would possibly be better off going with the 280/272 like what I got. I simply got mine like this so I wouldn't have to worry about not having enough cam for when I upgrade the turbo. Just a thought!

Deciding on what cams to get comes down to how you want your car to behave.

If you daily drive your car and not looking for mad huge power, 264 cams will give you quick spool and fast hitting torque at low revs, great around town with marginal benefits up top.

If you step up to 272/272 you move the powerband up a little bit, now you will have stock or slightly worse than stock bottom end characteristics and power but with more midrange punch and more top end. This is a popular choice for street/track cars.

If you are looking to make a drag car then you can go for 280's which sacrifice a lot of low end, for huge high end power. The increased valve overlap is great for scavenging (intake air cleans all the exhuast air out of the cylinder) at high rpms and load when there is a mad airflow. The tradeoff is a bit of a rough idle due to the intake reversion effects of said overlap. This can be tuned out and minimized with MIVEC though.

Watch out for cam issues that have cropped up for the GSC/Cosworth/Kelfords MIVEC Evo 9 cams lately:

Cool, thanks! So I guess with my FS635 turbo kit it would be better to go with the 280/272's? I want to maximize the top end big time. Should be good right? I'm getting the supertech duel valve springs.
