Help: Car breaking up badly

A few days ago I got a bad sputter while under boost. It quickly progressed to on idle. I diagnosed as an ignition issue and proceeded to swap out the plug wires and plugs.

I tested the car for the first time last ngiht and it worked perfectly, so i thought problem solved. Today however, the car worked fine on my way to the grocery, but on my way back, breaking up again. AFRs rich, well into the 10's. The break-up however is not as bad as before.

My new diagnosis is coil packs. Heat soak causing the problem to surface. The only variable I can think of is heat. Last night I just warmed-up the car and made the 3rd gear pull... this morning was cool and the car was again just started. While at the grocery the engine heat would have soaked the packs which then made the problem surface. My egts are down as well, I logged and no knock... everything seems to be fine with the ecu.

Any other ideas? Coil packs are expensive... i dont want to swap these out unless its necessary.

Try lowering the gap to .020 and see if the car stops breaking up.

what turbo are you running? cause 12psi on a 35r flows more air than a stock 16g turbo....so maybe with the .024 gap you are extinguishing the spark with high air flow and need to close the gap more...

I run bpr8es, and gap them at .019, and was having this issue too, then changed over to okada coils, and have not had the problem since. I do have a good set of stock coil packs too!

I borrowed my friend's coils to test last night and the problem was solved. I think i'm going to get a set of the okadas.

The engine is forged, 9 turbo, full race mani, ams fmic, hks272s, pte680cc, 50/50meth.
